Prince Harry and Meghan Markle can call plenty of Hollywood A-listers friends. But they’ve left a royal expert “underwhelmed” by not being seen with many big names often. The reason, they suggested, could be because of the type of life the Duke and Duchess of Sussex want to lead in California.
Harry and Meghan aren’t often seen ‘mingling’ with Hollywood’s ‘A-list’
Royal expert and author Katie Nicholl discussed Harry and Meghan’s circle of friends on Vanity Fair’s “Dynasty” podcast in an episode titled “The Royal Family’s Most Challenging Year.”
“Personally, I have to say I’ve been a little underwhelmed with the celebrities they’ve been hanging out with,” she said. “Don’t get me wrong—I love Kevin Costner—he’s fabulous.” (Harry and Meghan went to a 2023 fundraiser Costner hosted.)
“But I thought they’d be mingling far more with the A-List.

It’s no mystery why Only Murders in the Building is killing it on Hulu. Besides the national obsession with true crime, there is a chemical reaction to the players which triggers a chaotic element unknown in forensics. Selina Gomez’s (occasionally “Bloody”) Mabel Mora ties up the loose ends. You might say she Martinizes them. It is harder to find looser ends than Steve Martin and Martin Short. As Charles-Haden Savage and Oliver Putnam, respectively, the two performers may stick to the scripts in the series, but they spent over a generation improvising over each other.
Martin and Short met while shooting the 1986 film Three Amigos! with Chevy Chase. Admiring new friend Steve’s opulent home, Martin was moved to ask “How did you get so rich,” he recalled on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon, marveling at its improbability by admitting “I’ve seen your work.” They’ve been collaborating ever since,...

The box office can be an institution of simple pleasures. Hollywood releases the story of a rampaging bear drugged out of its mind and — what do you know? — the people roll out.
“Cocaine Bear” drew a solid $8.6 million opening day gross from 3,534 theaters, a figure that includes $2 million in Thursday previews. That places the Universal release ahead of projections heading into the weekend, which had the gory comedy pegged at a debut between $15 million and $17 million. A fun marketing campaign and a killer premise have given the film a strong position, with a debut north of $21 million now in the cards.
That would mark an auspicious kick-off for “Cocaine Bear,” which carries a production budget of $35 million. Reviews have been a bit all over the place; the film carries a 51% approval rating from top critics on review aggregate website Rotten Tomatoes. Audiences are also a bit lukewarm, as the film...

A year ago, country star Brad Paisley watched the news on television as Russian troops invaded Ukraine and, like many people around the world, he felt helpless at the images of people fleeing their homes.
“The world felt like it was in a new place that it hadn’t been in decades,” the three-time Grammy winner recalls.

On Friday, the one-year anniversary of the war’s start, Paisley is releasing a new song called “Same Here,” featuring Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy speaking proudly about his country and people.
The song is Paisley’s first from his new record, “Son of the Mountains,” to be released later this year on Universal Music Group Nashville.
The West Virginia native wrote the song with Lee Thomas Miller (co-writer on Paisley hits “The World” and “Perfect Storm”) and Dawes frontman Taylor Goldsmith.

Half a century ago Hollywood was frantically trying to figure out the newly-dominant “youth market.” Since some of that market had recently found Jesus, there was a brief spate of related films: Zefferelli’s hippie-fied St. Francis biopic “Brother Sun, Sister Moon,” adapted stage musicals “Jesus Christ Superstar” and “Godspell,” the Billy Graham-produced “A Time to Run” chief among them. But as the “Jesus Movement” got absorbed into more mainstream institutions, the brief vogue flickered out.
For a moment there, however, counterculture and Christ had a groovy thing going on, one that promised both salvation for those who’d gone overboard on sex, drugs and rock ’n’ roll, as well as a healthy shakeup of churches that had lost touch with younger generations. Dramatizing that moment is “Jesus Revolution,” an engaging, upbeat new effort from co-directors Jon Erwin (“I Can Only Imagine”) and Brent McCorkle (“Unconditional”), adapted from Greg Laurie’s memoir.

It is not often these days that you get a Hollywood studio release born out of the late-’60s and ’70s hippie movement, but in blending a true-life faith-based story with the uninhibited counterculture of the time, you have Jesus Revolution. It’s the latest spiritual exercise from the Erwin Brothers’ Kingdom Story Company virtual factory of inspirational faith-based films that really took hold with their 2018 smash hit I Can Only Imagine and more recently included the Kurt Warner football story American Underdog.
Unlike many films in the genre, which find their greatest box office success in the South and Midwest, the Erwins don’t dwell on pounding the message into their movies (thank God for that), but there is no question that belief in God when you might be at the lowest point of your life, questioning everything, is a key component, and clearly they look to real life for their inspiration.

Nancy Meyers, co-writer and producer of the 1991 Father of the Bride movie starring Steve Martin and Diane Keaton, says late actress Cindy Williams inspired the remake.
In an Instagram post remembering the Laverne & Shirley star, who died last Wednesday at the age of 75, Meyers expressed her sadness over hearing of Williams’ death. And in a brief anecdote, the writer and producer of the film directed by ex-husband Charles Shyer revealed how the beloved TV icon helped make the ’90s romantic comedy a reality.
“What few people know is that it was Cindy’s idea to remake Father of the Bride,” Meyers recalled. “She told me she was watching the Spencer Tracey [sic] version on TV one night and thought it would be a great movie to remake.”
Meyers went on to add that Williams not only “made it happen” but altered her professional trajectory in Hollywood as a result — all...

Netflix’s list of films premiering on the streaming service in 2023 isn’t nearly as long as their ambitious 2022 film slate. Yet even with a slimmed-down slate, the lineup of movies arriving this year is impressive and checks off nearly every genre.
The streamer will be dipping back into familiar territory with sequels to Murder Mystery and Extraction. Zack Snyder’s Rebel Moon, Sam Esmail’s Leave the World Behind, and David Yates’ The Pain Hustlers will premiere this year, as will the film continuation of Luther starring Idris Elba. And two romantic comedies with big-name casts made their way into the lineup: Your Place or Mine (Ashton Kutcher and Reese Witherspoon) and A Family Affair.
Netflix’s announcement of their 2023 film slate was accompanied by a trailer showcasing 16 titles including You People, The Mother, Heart of Stone, The Killer, and Leo.

Dog Gone is a movie directed by Stephen Herek starring Rob Lowe and Kimberly Williams-Paisley. It is based on a book by Pauls Toutonghi.
A tv style saccharine movie with all the sickly sweet elements to delight the more family oriented viewers and create one or more ulcers for reviewers: full of clichés, easy, schematic and totally formulaic.
Storyline
A guy whose girlfriend has just dumped, gets a new friend, Gonker, with which, I guarantee, he manages a longer and more sincere relationship. The problem happens when he loses his dear friend and the guy will do everything he can to reunite with his friend… aided by his father, who has just arrived on his graduation day.

Who doesn’t love a heart-warming pet story? Rob Lowe stars as the dad in the father-son story of their search for their lost dog, Gonker. The trailer for the Netflix film finds its way online and features a journey through the wilderness as they encounter various colorful characters like tough bikers, news reporters interested in their story, and new-age hippies. Usually, films like these showcase the viewpoint from the dog’s perspective as the canine usually encounters a number of obstacles through their adventure in unknown territory, much like 90s family films, Homeward Bound: The Incredible Journey, and Milo & Otis.
The plot synopsis from Netflix reads,
“After a young man and his beloved dog are separated on the Appalachian Trail, he and his father must begin a desperate search to find him before it’s too late. Based on an incredible true story of humanity and everyday heroism.Based...

"We will find that dog." Netflix has revealed the uplifting first official trailer for Dog Gone, a new missing dog movie from filmmaker Stephen Herek. This is based on the true story as covered in the book "Dog Gone: A Lost Pet's Extraordinary Journey and the Family Who Brought Him Home" by Pauls Toutonghi. Kind of like the story from the Disney classic Homeward Bound. Based on the true story of a father and son who repair their fractured relationship during a forced hike to find their beloved lost dog. Saturday, October 10, 1998. Fielding Marshall is hiking on the Appalachian Trail. His beloved dog bolts into the woods. Just like that, he has vanished. And Gonker has Addison's disease. If he's not found in twenty-three days, he will die. A search begins and many get involved in helping find him. The movie version stars Rob Lowe, Johnny Berchtold, Kimberly Williams-Paisley, and Nick Peine.

Steve Martin and Martin Short have appeared in many projects together over the years, from "Three Amigos!" to "Only Murders In The Building." Their latest collaboration was co-hosting this weekend's episode of "Saturday Night Live" — they even delivered the monologue together.
Among the episode's sketches was a send-up of "Father of the Bride," the 1991 comedy starring the pair. The second adaptation of the 1949 novel, the film featured Martin as the titular father, George Banks, who is none too pleased when his 22-year-old daughter comes home from Europe with a fiancé in tow. Meanwhile, Short played the eccentric wedding planner Franck Eggelhoffer, who pushes the event to luxurious (and expensive) extremes.
Pitching itself as "Father of the Bride Part 8," the sketch uses "SNL" regulars to fill out the original movie's supporting cast — with one exception. Kieran Culkin, who at age nine appeared as Banks' young son Matty, returns in the sketch...

"There is an entire generation searching… just in all the wrong places." Lionsgate has revealed an official trailer for an indie film titled Jesus Revolution, set in the 1970s based on real events. This is opening in theaters nationwide in February, which means they're hopeful it will find a big audience. The film tells the true story of a national spiritual awakening in the late 60s / early 70s and its origins within a community of teenage hippies from Southern California. This is about a divided moment in US history when people came together by checking their preconceptions at the door – and formed a movement by listening to each other, looking beyond their own beliefs. This revival of radical and newfound love led to what Time Magazine, in 1971, dubbed a "Jesus Revolution." Has it all been forgotten since then? The film stars Joel Courtney as Greg, Anna Grace Barlow, Jonathan Roumie,...

Lionsgate announced this afternoon that their Dirty Dancing sequel starring Jennifer Grey will hit theaters on Feb. 9, 2024.
Deadline first reported about the project, which Jonathan Levine is directing off a screenplay by Elizabeth Chomko, Jonathan Levine, Mikki Daughtry, Tobias Iaconis. In part 2, Baby (Grey) takes us back to Kellerman’s Resort for a story of summer, young romance, and dancing. That weekend is the pre-Valentine’s Day weekend and right now Universal has an untitled animation film on the calendar.
In addition, Lionsgate’s feature take of Judy Blume’s 1970 novel Are You There God? It’s Me, Margaret will now open April 28, 2023 instead of Sept. 16 this year. Universal recently moved DreamWorks’ Distant off that date to Jan. 27, 2023. While I hear Lionsgate likes the new pre-summer date for the Judy Blume movie, I’m wondering now if New Line’s feature take of Stephen King’s Salem’s Lot in the previous Sept.

Exclusive: Producer and bestselling author DeVon Franklin has found his first major film role in Lionsgate and Kingdom Story Company’s Jesus Revolution. He joins an ensemble that also includes Kelsey Grammer, Joel Courtney, Anna Grace Barlow, Jonathan Roumie, Kimberly Williams-Paisley, Ally Ioannides, Julia Campbell, Nic Bishop and Jolie Jenkins, as previously announced.
The film set in the 1970s watches as a young Greg Laurie (Courtney) sets out to redefine truth through all means of liberation, and instead, meets Lonnie Frisbee (Roumie), a charismatic hippie street preacher. Laurie and Frisbee, along with Pastor Chuck Smith (Grammer), open the doors of Smith’s languishing church to an unexpected revival by way of rock and roll, newfound love, and a twist of faith leading to a Jesus Revolution that changed the world. Franklin will play Josiah, a New York news reporter covering a story on the magnitude of the movement unfolding.
Jon Erwin and Brent McCorkle (Unconditional) are directing from a script by Erwin and Jon Gunn. Kevin Downes and Jon and Andrew Erwin are producing alongside Josh Walsh (The Jesus Music) and Daryl Lefever (Woodlawn).
“Anyone who knows DeVon knows he is one of the most respected and successful producers in the industry, but they also know his devotion and commitment to inspiring people through entertainment,” said director Jon Erwin. “It is part of his DNA, and we are privileged that someone who is usually behind the scenes has graciously agreed to step in front of the camera for us for this important role and this story.”
“I was excited and nervous when they approached me to act,” added Franklin, “yet once I read the script, I knew I had to be part of bringing this powerful true story to the screen.”
Franklin serves as President and CEO of Franklin Entertainment, a production company boasting first-look deals with Paramount Pictures and CBS TV Studios. He has been the driving force behind some of Hollywood’s most successful inspirational content, including the soon-to-be-released movie Flamin’ Hot for Searchlight and the television series Kingdom Business for BET+. In addition to his work as a producer, Franklin is the author of multiple bestselling books. His Audible Original, It Takes a Woman—a deeply personal look into the tragedy that transformed his family’s life—was released in April.
Franklin serves the Hollywood community at large as Vice President of the Board of Governors for the Academy of Motion Pictures Arts & Sciences. The LA-based USC grad is repped by WME and Hansen, Jacobson, Teller.

The third time’s the charm for this marital dramedy! After the original 1950 film starring Spencer Tracy and Elizabeth Taylor was remade 40 years later in 1991 by Nancy Meyers, “Father of the Bride” now lands a 2022 version — with a new twist.
The HBO Max film stars Andy Garcia and Gloria Estefan as a Cuban-American couple trying to keep their own marriage alive while they also give away their daughter Sophie (Adria Arjona) at the altar. The beloved story includes a clash of two worlds as Sophie’s fiancé is Adam (Diego Boneta), a Mexican man whom her Cuban parents have reservations about. “Father of the Bride” debuts June 16 on HBO Max.
“There was both an honor and an obligation to deliver a story that’s within the Latin cultures, in this case, the Cuban and the Mexican, trying to relate to one another,” Garcia told Entertainment Weekly. “There’s an obligation to do it right,...

Nancy Meyers is bringing her filmmaking talents (and her immaculate kitchens) to Netflix, where she’ll write, direct and produce a new feature film.
News of the partnership comes after Meyers and Netflix teamed to release the short film “Father of the Bride Part 3 (ish),” which debuted on the streamer’s social channels in 2020. The special project brought together the cast of “Father of the Bride” and “Father of the Bride Part II” — Steve Martin, Diane Keaton, Kimberly Williams-Paisley, Kieran Culkin, George Newbern and Martin Short — for the first time in 25 years, with Robert De Niro, Florence Pugh, Alexandra Shipp and Ben Platt added to the mix. Meyers wrote and directed the Banks family reunion clip (produced by Reese Witherspoon), which benefitted World Central Kitchen.
Details about the new film are scarce, though the project is described as an ensemble comedy, a formula which Meyers has mastered over her career.
