Tom Rinaldi has a Christmas wish.
All Madden, the documentary he co-directed about NFL coach, broadcaster and video game namesake John Madden, will premiere Christmas Day on Fox. Rinaldi, a broadcaster for Fox Sports, made the film with his network production executive colleague, Joel Santos. The 85-year-old Madden has not yet seen the final cut.
“I hope he and his family can gather together and watch it and feel all of the admiration,” he told Deadline in an interview. “There’s a nostalgia aspect for many of us, taking us back through John’s whole journey. But there will be a lot of children receiving the Madden videogame for Christmas who don’t even know he’s an actual person! I just hope for them, and for a lot of people, it is a window onto this extraordinary life.”

Former New York Giants football coach Bill Parcells had a maxim that he used when people would talk about how losing teams were actually better than they appeared: “You are what your record says you are.” In this final weekend of the 2017 regular season for the National Football League, we should remember those words as we head into the post-season. For no matter how the hoopla of the playoffs and the Super Bowl may disguise it, the league is in trouble, based on its…...

Back in the more innocent days of 2014, there were few projects more eagerly anticipated by the cinema cognoscenti than Idol’s Eye, a thriller starring Robert De Niro and Robert Pattinson that was set to be the American debut of the great French writer-director Olivier Assayas. Set in Chicago in the 1970s, the project was based on a real incident in which a crew of professional thieves robbed the suburban home of Tony Accardo (a.k.a. “Big Tuna” and “Joe Batters”), then the head of the Chicago Outfit, and were subsequently hunted by the mob. Just weeks before it was due to start filming, the project fell apart due to financing problems. Assayas, then coming off Clouds Of Sils Maria, did not take it well.
But Screen Daily reports that the project has been resurrected, with Sylvester Stallone replacing De Niro as Accardo. Pattinson is still signed on ...

King's sure the G-Men will easily land a new leader easily, and he's also sure Coughlin's "gonna go down in history as one of the top 2 Giant coaches." So, why'd he get fired?...

R-Patz and, er, R-Dez have signed up to Olivier Assayas’s Idol’s Eye alongside Rachel Weisz. Billed as a “sophisticated heist/action thriller”, the film takes its cue from a 2007 Playboy article called Boosting The Big Tuna – the real story of a gang of small-time crooks who accidentally rob a pawn store owned by Chicago mafia boss Tony Accardo. No word yet on further plot details (although it’s likely De Niro will play Accardo to Pattinson’s inept shoplifter), but it’s Assayas’s name that keeps us interested. Fresh from pushing...

As I write this, the Super Bowl Xlviii kick-off is still 36 minutes away.
I’ve been thinking a lot about football the last couple of weeks. It’s a showdown between the best offensive team, the Afc Denver Broncos, led by Peyton Manning, who has had what may be the greatest quarterback season ever while breaking numerous statistical records, and the Nfc Seattle Seahawks, whose cornerback Russell Wilson is the *ahem* cornerstone of the best defensive team of the 2013 season.
It’s also the first Super Bowl in which the physical dangers and complications of the sport on its players have been as discussed and picked over as much as any debate about the game and who is going to win.
This season also saw the NFL going over the top in its security efforts, this year dictating what size pocketbook a woman may carry into an arena – and also...

Can you imagine what’d it be like if Mike Ditka or Bill Parcells jumped ship on the NFL and went overseas for that other sport called football? Of course we'll have no idea what his role is until the new season of Arrested Development hits Netflix on May 26, but John Krasinski, The Office's one and only Big Tuna, will make a cameo. The fifteen new episodes will feature return appearances from Ben Stiller, Andy Richter, Liza Minnelli, Carl Weathers, and Henry Winkler, as well as first-time spots from John Slattery, Kristen Wiig, Seth Rogen, Isla Fisher, Conan O'Brien, and the guys from Workaholics.

Wild at Heart
Directed by David Lynch
Written by David Lynch
1990, USA
David Lynch evokes a surreal world in Wild at Heart, a film brimming over with explicit sex, murder, rape, eccentric kitsch and sleaze. There is some rather horrifyingly violence, beginning with the opening scene where a man is beaten to death, to a moment later in the film where a shotgun to the head sends someone’s brains splattered across the frame. Based on the novel by Barry Gifford, and the winner of the Palme d’Or, Wild at Heart is a perverse and over-the top Southern Gothic thriller best described as a cross between Natural Born Killers and Badlands. Here, the director is working with pulp conventions, tangential metaphors, and interwoven into the cross-country adventure are numerous references to Lynch’s favourite movie, The Wizard of Oz. Appearing is both the Wicked Witch and the Good, along with a crystal ball,...

Terra Nova’s Jason O’Mara Lands CBS Drama Pilot
Terra Nova’s Jason O’Mara has been purposefully seeking out a new job ever since Fox decided to cancel the incredibly expensive show and entered into negotiations with Netflix in hopes of it finding a new a home with the video streaming service, which is looking bleaker by the minute. His search, and subsequent hiring, does not bode well for the show. If its leading man doesn’t have faith in it, why should anyone else?
Jason O’Mara signed on to co-star in CBS’s untitled Ralph Lamb drama pilot, according to Deadline. Dennis Quaid, Michael Chiklis, and Carrie-Anne Moss are also starring. This pilot would be in second position just in case Terra Nova was miraculously saved by Netflix. The pilot is set in the 1960s and will follow the real-life story of Ralph Lamb (Quaid), a...

While he’s melted our hearts for nearly seven seasons on The Office, Big Tuna has failed to make a huge splash on the big screen. Strange, huh, especially given the immense likability of Jim Halpert. Dallas Cowboys owner Jerry Jones is in the news today for the choice words he had about Bill Parcells and Tim Tebow, possibly uttered while drunk. Jones is also the subject of today's Daily TwitPic, which has absolutely nothing to do with alcoholic beverages or business decisions. As far as we know.
"Entourage" star Jeremy Piven got to hang with Jones recently during a shoot for the soon-to-return HBO series about celeb life wish fulfillment. It's hard to say exactly what Jones will be doing on the show, but it's a safe bet that he'll be playing himself. Could Piven's Ari Gold and his pal/client Vinnie Chase (Adrian Grenier) be taking a trip to Dallas for some football? We'll find out soon enough; the hit series returns this summer.

The Informant!: "Many of Steven Soderbergh's films in the past eight or nine years can be understood in light of the director asking himself a different hypothetical question: What if I made a slick caper movie cobbled from the emotional remnants of the 1960s? What if I made a stilted, form-driven science-fiction movie cobbled together from the emotional remnants of the 1970s? What if I made a historical drama using period filming techniques cobbled together from the emotional remnants of the 1940s? Etc., etc. Where Soderbergh's earlier films seemed genuinely interested in examining what it meant to pick a certain storytelling approach while never losing sight of the central narrative, his later work is often willfully unclassifiable, as in the deeply flawed and navel-gazing Ocean's Twelve or the passion project Che. But with The Informant!, Soderbergh's finally made a movie that doesn't know whether it's a limp comedy or a slack thriller.
