Ryan Paul Blackwood (born April 28, 1985 in Edinburgh) is a filmmaker and cameraman. Ryan Blackwood graduated from the Edinburgh Screen Academy with a 1st Class BA (Hons) in 'Photography, Film & Imaging' in 2007. His university dissertation was entitled "Is Public Funder Failing to Support 'Specialised' Cinema in Scotland?".
In 2008 he was nominated for a BAFTA Scotland New Talent Award for his graduation film 'Seaside' (dir: Andres Del Caño).
After graduating, he undertook producing a number of short films with Edinburgh College of Art and Napier University students. In 2008 Ryan produced 'Lu na. tic' (dir: Daniel Gough) and 'Hollow Bones' (dir: Candice Purwin) which was nominated for the Jim Poole Award 2008. 'Entwined' ' (dir: Reeve Rixon) won the BAFTA Scotland New Talent award in 2009.
Between 2007 and 2010 Ryan worked for BBC Scotland as a runner, working on TV shows such as 'Raven' and 'The Adventure Show'.
In 2010, following the success of 'Entwined' Ryan Blackwood, Reeve Rixon, Tom Watson and James G Quinn set up 'oooi' - a digital agency producing in-house films, web and graphics. The business was dissolved in 2012.
Since 2012 Ryan has worked primarily as a camera operator, expanding into aerial cinematography in 2021.
Ryan Blackwood's broadcast credits includes 'The Reforesting of the Highlands', 'Wild Britain' and 'Europe from Above'.
