Between its striking title, lurid artwork, and the timing of its release — 1981 bore the likes of Halloween II, Friday the 13th Part 2, My Bloody Valentine, The Burning, The Funhouse, The Prowler, and Happy Birthday to Me — one might mistake Butcher, Baker, Nightmare Maker (also known as Night Warning) for a run-of-the-mill slasher flick. While it vaguely fits in the slice-and-dice mold, the film is anything but generic.
The prologue — which may have inspired Final Destination 2‘s unforgettable opening sequence — was directed by Michael Miller with cinematography by Jan de Bont, but Miller was let go by the production after falling behind schedule. He was replaced by TV veteran William Asher, who shot the remainder of the film with Robbie Greenberg as director of photography.
14 years after his parents were killed in an over-the-top car crash, Billy Lynch witnesses his infantilizing aunt-turned-guardian, Cheryl Roberts, kill a repair man in cold blood.

A number of great movies are leaving HBO Max at the end of March, so it’s time to prioritize these titles in your queue. Filmmaker James Gunn’s sequel/soft reboot “The Suicide Squad” will depart the streaming service on March 22 after first hitting HBO Max the same day it was released in theaters back in 2021. Similarly, “Space Jam: A New Legacy” was whisked away on March 1 after also getting a day-and-date release in 2021 (sorry/not sorry if you missed it).
You also only have until March 7 to stream “Just a Boy From Tupelo: Bringing Elvis to the Big Screen,” a short documentary on the making of the Oscar-nominated biopic “Elvis.”
Other noteworthy films leaving HBO Max this month include “The Assassination of Jesse James by the Coward Robert Ford,” “Contagion,” the extended version of “Dances with Wolves,” “Ghostbusters,” “Four Weddings and a Funeral,” “Love & Basketball” and “Popstar: Never Stop Never Stopping.

The Diablo games have no shortage of social features. Not only can players team up to conquer the forces of hell but they can also form and join clans to make it even easier to join parties of in-game friends. Diablo Immortal has yet another addition to that list in the form of factions.
In the new game, players can join one of three factions: Adventurers, Shadows, and Immortals. Each group has their own channels, rewards, and most importantly, membership requirements. Not all factions are created equal, and some are easier to get into than others.
Here’s everything you need to know about the Adventurers, Shadows and Immortals factions and how to join them:
Adventurers
Compared to the other two factions, “Adventurers” sounds like such a generic name.

The Diablo franchise has always let players choose between a vareity of classes, but once you’ve chosen your starter class, the games usually lock you into your selections until you decide to start over. Diablo Immortal tries something a little different.
When players start Diablo Immortal, they can pick from several classic classes, including the brutal Barbarian, noble Crusader, and the edgy Demon Hunter. Plus, more are on the way if leaks are to be believed. After players choose their class, they’ll even be able to tweak the character’s appearance, from their eye color to their chin length. That’s a first for the series, and it’s a pretty welcome addition.

There are few bigger thrills in a loot-based game than finally finding that one rare item that just so happened to finally drop. While Diablo Immortal is filled with those pieces of Legendary gear that light up the screen with a bright orange glow just as they light up your day, you should know right now that the game doesn’t make it easy to find Legendary items.
While we don’t know the current drop rate of Legendary gear in Diablo Immortal (and we may never know the exact numbers), I can tell you right now that it’s low. There’s a chance that you’ll hit Diablo Immortal‘s level cap and not find a single piece of Legendary gear in the...

Diablo Immortal will live on in infamy as the “out-of-season April Fool’s Day” joke that Blizzard announced at BlizzCon 2018. The game was originally supposed to be for mobile platforms only, but thankfully, that plan changed.
A little over a month before the game’s open beta, Blizzard blindsided Diablo fans by announcing a surprise PC port. The good news is that this decision solved one major criticism of Diablo Immortal: The title was designed for smartphones, but the majority of Diablo fans play the games on PC. Thanks to this port, Diablo Immortal will launch on the platform that started it all for the series. The bad news, however, is that this port raises the question of crossplay and cross-progression. There was a time when Diablo Immortal was an incredibly controversial mobile-only entry in the legendary Diablo franchise. However, not long before the game’s launch, Blizzard confirmed that Immortal would also be available for PC on day one. That means that those who want to try Diablo Immortal are no longer limited to mobile devices and touch controls.
Just because Diablo Immortal now offers more control options doesn’t mean that all control options are created equally, though. Indeed, after a little time with the game, it’s easy enough to see that there are some ways to control Diablo Immortal that offer considerable advantages and other ways that may leave you at a disadvantage.
That being the case, here’s a rundown of the various control options Diablo Immortal offers and a few words on which ones may be best for you.

Despite being available for mobile devices and despite embracing some Mmoarpg ideas seen in games like Lost Ark, Diablo Immortal is still a Diablo game in many of the ways that matter most. That means that you’ll start the game by picking which of the game’s six classes you want to play as, and it also means that your choice of character class will end up impacting the rest of your experience in several ways.

As a major free-to-play game in the modern era, it should come as no surprise that Diablo Immortal offers quite a few microtransactions. The big question at the moment, though, is whether all of those microtransactions add up to make Diablo Immortal a “pay-to-win” game.
See, even though quite a few free-to-play and mobile titles offer microtransactions, not all microtransactions are made equally. Some grant you access to simple things like in-game cosmetics, while others offer substantial gameplay advantages or even direct competitive advantages. Games in the latter category are often referred to as pay-to-win titles, and they’re generally considered to be the scourge of the industry. Even titles that strongly encourage you to spend money in order to avoid built-in annoyances can fall into that category.

After years of hype, several changes, and more than a few debates, Diablo Immortal is finally set to launch this week. As is sometimes the case with modern video game releases, though, figuring out what time you’ll actually be able to install and play the game can be a nightmare worthy of the Diablo franchise.

Many PC and mobile gamers will be able to install and play Diablo Immortal starting on June 2. Overwatch 2‘s ongoing beta hasn’t quite answered all of our questions about the strange sequel and whether it will bring the game closer to where it needs to be, but it has already given us a pretty good idea of which of the game’s Heroes stand out in the earliest days of the team shooter’s competitive meta.
Everyone knew that Overwatch 2‘s new and reworked Heroes were going to impact the game’s meta, but it’s actually Overwatch 2‘s reworked 5 vs. 5 format that makes the team shooter feel like a (mostly) new experience. It turns out that removing one tank from every Overwatch match really forces you to reconsider what every other Hero in the game does (or doesn’t) bring to the table.

After maintaining something close to radio silence for what seemed like years, Blizzard has finally unveiled new information on Diablo Immortal. While Elden Ring doesn’t feature the kind of item rarity system seen in RPGs like Diablo or World of Warcraft, the game does feature a “Legendary” tag used to distinguish notable weapons, summons, talismans, and, for our purposes today, spells and sorceries.
You probably assume that Elden Ring‘s Legendary sorceries have to be among the most powerful spells in the game. While there are a few that deserve that honor, the strange fact of the matter is that most Legendary spells are more flashy than functional. The journey required to acquire them is often more significant than the reward itself.
Still, anyone interested in unlocking every Elden Ring achievement or simply seeing everything this game has to offer will need to know where to find the game’s collection of Legendary spells.

Although it still has a long way to go to catch up to Netflix, HBO Max is gradually building a reputation for both an impressive library of content and its own original programming. As well as reportedly working on a number of Batman-focused series, the WarnerMedia streamer is also absorbing shows from DC Universe, and funding the Snyder Cut of Justice League. We now know what’s coming to HBO Max in September, and there’s plenty there for subscribers to sink their teeth into.
The big original series highlight next month is the Ridley Scott-produced Raised by Wolves, which explores two androids raising human children. Created by Adam Guzikowski, the program could be one of HBO Max’s first big hits with critics and audiences, and is set to arrive on September 3rd. Gerard Butler's heist thriller, Den of Thieves, which is still currently playing in theaters is getting a sequel. Butler and director Christian Gudegast are both set to return. I thought the first film was pretty awesome and I'm happy to hear that we'll be getting a sequel.
According to Variety, "The second installment will place Butler’s character Big Nick on the hunt in the streets of Europe and closing in on Donnie, who is embroiled in the dangerous world of diamond theft, plotting a heist of the world’s biggest diamond exchange."
O’Shea Jackson Jr. is currently in negotiations to reprise his role as Donnie. Den of Thieves was Christian Gudegast's first time directing a feature film. Before that he wrote the scripts Speed Racer, A Man Apart, Immortals and London Has Fallen.

Christian Gudegast is the writer behind some pretty good action films like London Has Fallen and A Man Apart. Now in his directorial debut he brings us Den Of Thieves, the action thriller that pits two crews on both sides of the law against each other in modern day Los Angeles. Gerard Butler and Curtis "50 Cent" Jackson co-star in this action-packed heist film, but is it just another mediocre movie?

We all love a good heist film. Whether it’s “one last job” or a wild spree, the preparation, the twists, and the inevitable violence are all alluring. A robbery is a perfect pressure-cooker, where greed, self-preservation, and panic slowly unspools the best-laid plans and the strongest loyalties. Really, it makes for great edge-of-the-seat cinema.
Speaking of heist-thrillers, Christian Gudegast, the writer of “A Man Apart” and “London Has Fallen,” is making his directorial debut with one such heist-thriller, “Den of Thieves,” which he also writes.

You have to savor the irony: African Americans comprise a tiny portion of film directors; we all know the argument that black movies don’t play overseas. And in F. Gary Gray’s “The Fate of the Furious,” we now we have the first billion-dollar movie from a black director…and it was driven overwhelmingly by the overseas gross.

While Jordan Peele’s “Get Out” will be the most profitable title of the year, “The Fate of the Furious” just made F. Gary Gray the first African American to join an even more elite rank: He directed a film that’s earned over $1 billion worldwide.
The eighth entry in the “Furious” franchise currently stands at about $1.2 billion, with more than 80% of that business outside North America — making this the unusual (and welcome) case of a black director’s film making the...

A Man ApartIn October 2016, Vin Diesel revealed that the director of The Fate of the Furious, the eighth installment in the multi-billion dollar series of films, would be none other than F. Gary Gray. To those familiar with his work, it seemed like a natural fit. Gray has worked in Hollywood for over twenty years and is one of the most financially successful black directors in history. Coming off of the massive success of Straight Outta Compton (his second film to gross over $100 million dollars at the domestic box office, after 2003’s The Italian Job), Gray seemed like the ideal choice for the latest Fast and Furious installment, where he could return to his cinematic trademarks: guns, heists, fast cars and racially diverse ensembles. These elements were staples of Gray’s work even before his first feature in 1995. Gray, a South Central Los Angeles native, began as a cameraman for Bet and Fox,...

Assorted recommendations inspired by the multifarious sequel.Sorry, Marky Mark, but you’ve already got a car-based franchise.
By the time you’re done watching The Fate of the Furious, you’re likely to have forgotten some of its distinctly differing parts. The sequel begins as one thing then becomes another and another and another, delivering a thrilling mix of action sequences that don’t quite fit together as a fluid and cohesive whole.
I was reminded of a number of dissimilar movies while watching the eighth Fast and the Furious installment, so this week’s list of recommendations could be an even more mixed assortment than usual. But I have no interest in prescribing bad-tasting medicine like The Game Plan in response to Dwayne Johnson’s soccer dad scene. I’m also ignoring Jason Statham’s cheeky insult reminding Johnson and us all of his dumb Hercules movie.

Straight outta Hollywood, some advice on how to make it there.F. Gary Gray on the set of ‘Law Abiding Citizen’
F. Gary Gray is a journeyman, a prolific and diverse director who has given us all kinds of movies, from his comedic 1995 debut, Friday, to the recent smash-hit biopic Straight Outta Compton.
He wasn’t one of those guys who always knew he’d be a filmmaker; he didn’t make amateur movies as a kid. He didn’t go into the business any kind of expert on cinema or moviemaking. Instead, he’s become one along the way.
And he’s still learning. And you can learn from him vicariously and through advice imparted from more than 20 years on the job, since his days helming music videos through his newest feature, The Fate of the Furious.
Here are six tips we’ve compiled from interviews spanning his career:

While last weekend's new releases failed to energize the box office, two of this week's new titles will top the weekend chart. M. Night Shyamalan's latest thriller, Split, and the return of Vin Diesel in the title role of xXx: Return of Xander Cage are both looking to score $20+ million openings while Hidden Figures and La La Land look to continue to capture audience attention amid their already-strong domestic runs. Additionally, this weekend features the release of The Founder into just over one thousand theaters and High Top releasing brings The Resurrection of Gavin Stone into 887 theaters as it hopes to attract the attention of the faith-based audience. At the top of the weekend box office expect to find M. Night Shyamalan's Split. Shyamalan's career has featured plenty of ups and downs, but following the performance of The Visit in 2015 and the solid early reviews for Split, we...

I thought the last Fast and Furious film would have made a solid ending to the franchise, but Universal Pictures wants to keep raking in the cash from it, so we are getting an eighth installment. Of course, people like me will keep watching them if they keeping making them. These films have been a lot of fun to watch.
There have been rumors that the plot of Furious 8 would take place in New York City, and we’ve also heard that the filmmakers are also looking to shoot in Cuba. I’m really hoping that this next film isn’t just going to be a carbon copy of what we’ve already seen, and according to director F. Gary Gray, that’s not going to be the case.
In an interview with Collider, the director talked about teaming up with Vin Diesel again. The two previously worked on the film A Man Apart.

Variety reports that Universal Pictures is developing spinoffs and prequels based on the characters of the "Fast & Furious" franchise.
Producer and actor Vin Diesel was interviewed by Variety via a cover story on Universal Pictures saying, "We've written out story lines for various characters, said Diesel.

Universal Pictures Donna Langley confirmed negotiations with the cast have taken place for the spinoff films saying:
"We're certainly in conversations about how we can expand the franchise now. It's an ensemble cast and there's room to bring characters in and out."

When first we checked in on Furious 8's search for a director, Universal was wary of Vin Diesel taking the job himself. And when we last checked in, Diesel was promising to reveal the choice on his Facebook page, leading to fears that he would indeed pull a Dick Cheney. Now THR reports that's unlikely to be the case, as the studio has landed on Straight Outta Compton's F. Gary Gray for the gig. Gray was one of three filmmakers short-listed for the job alongside The Transporter's Louis Leterrier and You're Next's Adam Wingard; his filmography also includes A Man Apart with Vin Diesel and The Italian Job with Jason Statham. It's like he was part of the family already. It's official, kids: This post has been updated throughout.

Update: As Gray himself tweets below, this is now official, and Gray has taken the job. Following an unusually protracted search, it looks very much as if Fast & Furious 8 has finally found its director. One of those 'director shortlist' stories emerged overnight, suggesting that F. Gary Gray, Louis Leterrier (The Transporter), William Eubank (The Signal) , Ericson Core (the Point Break remake), Adam Wingard (You're Next) and original F&F helmer Rob Cohen were all in the mix. But while nothing has yet been officially announced, Vin Diesel's posting of the above picture - of himself and Gray with a pinboard of F&F images between them - on his megahorn Facebook page very much suggests that Gray is the winner.Gray is coming off the hit Nwa biopic Straight Outta Compton, and has previous with Diesel, having directed him in the action drama A Man Apart in 2003. Gray has worked with Vin Diesel in the past, on the 2003 action film A Man Apart. Gray's other work in the action-thriller genre include The Italian Job, The Negotiator and Law Abiding Citizen. Diesel met with Gray yesterday and took the picture which you see above and posted on his Facebook page. The report at THR notes that Diesel...

The hunt for a filmmaker to direct Fast and Furious 8 has been interesting to say the least, especially as there have been some worrying rumblings that Vin Diesel might use his power as a producer to end up placing himself in the director’s chair (something which Universal apparently weren’t even remotely keen on happening).

Before you even see the red band trailer card let alone any footage from the film, this promo for Nwa will take you to Compton with Ice Cube and Dr. Dre. It’s a very unusual move, but an effective one and a reminder that there really is a story here, and that it’s a relevant one.
Unfortunately, the trailer itself isn’t quite as captivating as the real Cube and Dre. I’m hoping that this footage is an excerpt of something longer, maybe a full-length DVD supplement, because I really do want to see more.

Before you even see the red band trailer card let alone any footage from the film, this promo for Nwa will take you to Compton with Ice Cube and Dr. Dre. It’s a very unusual move, but an effective one and a reminder that there really is a story here, and that it’s a relevant one.

Charlie Countryman helmer Fredrik Bond is said to be in talks to direct the follow-up to Olympus Has Fallen which has been named London Has Fallen. He takes over from the first movie’s director Antoine Fuqua. Bond was recently linked to a number of projects, including Pirates of the Caribbean 5.
Gerard Butler, Aaron Eckhart and Morgan Freeman are all set to reprise their roles from the first movie, and as you can probably guess from the title, the sequel is set to bring the action to London, where the British Prime Minister has passed away under mysterious circumstances.
As you might expect however, his funeral is a must-attend event for leaders of the Western world, but what starts out as the most protected event on earth, turns into a deadly plot to kill the world’s most powerful leaders and unleash what is described as a terrifying vision of the future.

The 2013 blockbuster, Olympus Has Fallen, was not without its charms. Directed by Antoine Fuqua, it had a dark grittiness to it, setting it slightly apart from the standard, cookie cutter action films that essentially take the premise of Die Hard and change the setting and circumstance. Inevitably, it was a box office success, too, which meant a follow-up was immediately discussed. The sequel was already named as London Has Fallen, and now it has a director – in the surprising form of Fredrik Bond.
Bond is an unexpected choice to take this franchise forward, as he is relatively inexperienced behind the camera. He has one feature-length credit to his name – Charlie Countryman – which was not exactly an action-packed movie. However, it is Bond that is in the process of stepping up to this plate, looking to call the shots on a script whose final draft was delivered by Christian Gudegast (A Man Apart...

His new flick “The Fast and the Furious 6” is in theaters now, and Vin Diesel paid a visit to “The Tonight Show with Jay Leno” last night (May 23).
The “A Man Apart” hunk was in great spirits as he joked with Leno about how he gets such great muscle definition, especially at 45 years of age.
And during the conversation, Diesel confirmed that while he’s tried a lot of different substances during his life as an actor, he’s never used steroids.
Vin explained, “I have a lot of friends that I grew up with who were bouncers that would do steroids and then have to have their t*ts drained.”
Diesel also made sure to mention that men don’t need to feel like they need to juice up in order to get big, since he’s done it steroid-free!

The Hunger Games' Liam Hemsworth is set to star in a new action-adventure film called Aurora Rising. Hemsworth will play a "Southern California surfer who becomes a fighter pilot and after a messy combat mission, is recruited to be part of an elite team to test a new generation of aircraft just as an international conflict begins."
The movie is set up at Relativity Media, and the script comes from Christian Gudegast (A Man Apart). There's no director attached yet, but it sounds like it could be a decent film. I've always been fascinated with the military's airforce, and it should be interesting to see what they end up doing with this, and what kind of technology these new jets have. I imagine the movie will somewhat try to mimic the Top Gun formula.
