This week, British actor, writer and director Noel Clarke has made headlines after being accused of groping, harassment and bullying by 20 women.
Clarke played Mickey Smith in “Doctor Who” from 2005 to 2010 and starred as Sam in the films “Kidulthood,” “Adulthood” and “Brotherhood,” which he wrote and directed, intent on bringing more representations of working-class Britain to screen. Clarke also writes, produces and plays Aaron Bishop in the British police procedural series “Bulletproof,” alongside close friend Ashley Walters.
Clarke made his film debut in 2003’s “I’ll Sleep When I’m Dead” and has since starred in movies including “Star Trek Into Darkness,” “Centurion,” “4.3.2.1.,” “Fast Girls,” “Storage 24,” “I Am Soldier,” “The Anomaly,” “I Kill Giants,” “Mute,” “10×10,” “The Corrupted,” “Twist” and “Sas: Red Notice.”
In 2015, Clarke founded the London-based production company Unstoppable Film and Television with Jason Maza, eventually securing investment from super-indie All3Media, which owns “Fleabag” producer Two Brothers and “1917” outfit Neal Street Productions.

“Romans” is directed by Ludwig and Paul Shammasian (“The Pyramid Texts”). Back in 2015, Britain witnessed a robbery that could have been straight out of the movies. It was a throwback crime to the days of the Great Train Robbery of 1963, a crime which made the likes of Buster Edwards and Ronnie Biggs household names. It was only a matter of time before this new story was adapted for the big screen and The Hatton Garden Job is just that film.
The Hatton Garden Job is directed by Tower Block and I Am Soldier writer and director Ronnie Thompson, though looking at the new trailer anyone would think this has a touch of Guy Ritchie about it. The cast is none too shabby either; the gang of aging criminals is lead by Brian Reader who is played by Larry Lamb who may be most recognisable as Gavin’s Dad in Gavin and Stacey. He also had the evil role...

As his new film - The Anomaly - arrives, we chat to Noel Clarke about his plans, the movie, and Jason Statham....
Interview
For his third directorial outing - following Adulthood and 4.3.2.1 - Noel Clarke is tackling sci-fi. As such, The Anomaly arrives in UK cinemas this weekend, and he took some time out to tell us about the film, about his future projects, and - of course - his favourite Statham movie...
There's a distinct lack of logos at the start of The Anomaly. If you compare this to the last film you directed, 4.3.2.1, that had a huge procession of companies involved. This has Universal, your company and The Tea Shop & Film Company. Is that indicative that this was a slightly easier project to pull together? That the currency you've built up over your past few projects makes it a slightly easier sell?
It's not necessarily easier. It's just indicative of,...

'Unwisely split into two parts for its theatrical outing, Von Trier's film is actually better enjoyed in the comfort of your own home'
A minor Twitter storm broke out last month after specialist distributor Peccadillo announced that the Cineworld chain would be pulling all scheduled screenings of their explicit gay cruising thriller Stranger By The Lake – not for sinister GLAAD-bothering reasons, as some commentators were quick to assume, but because the film was set to become available for streaming just two weeks after its cinema release, a way short of Cineworld's standard exclusivity deal. Cineworld quickly backed down, but it's clear that the gap between a film's big and small screen debuts has narrowed considerably since the heady days of the 80s, when a Beverly Hills Cop sequel could take anywhere from two to three lifetimes to make the transition to VHS. Today, studios are keen to maximise profits by...

Bored with male protagonists? Blue Is the Warmest Colour and The Hunger Games: Catching Fire put women first
With the film industry's male bias once more in the headlines – a new study reveals only 15% of major releases feature a female protagonist – this week's top DVD releases are gratifying exceptions. For Blue Is the Warmest Colour (Artificial Eye, 18), the severe age certificate prompted by its explicit, exquisitely tender love scenes bars the audience who would most immediately identify with its delicate impressions of adolescent sexual curiosity and insecurity. Richly deserving of its Palme d'Or win at Cannes last year, Abdellatif Kechiche's porous, persuasive character study yields an astonishing performance from Adèle Exarchopoulos as a gangly secondary school student whose chance encounter with a blue-haired painter (Léa Seydoux) gradually unlocks her adult identity.
There are flashes of romantic need in the second outing for Katniss Everdeen, stoic warrior queen of The Hunger Games: Catching Fire (Lionsgate,...

There was a spirit and drive on set of Ronnie Thompson’s latest drama I Am Soldier, and a commitment to the cause not to dissimilar to the special forces themselves, with a palpable, tireless work ethic spreading around the camp. It seems only right this be the case, as the one thing Thompson – whose previous directing credit is Tower Block – was hellbent on guaranteeing, is that his film is rife with authenticity, as he uses his own personal experiences as a serviceman, to help craft this piece of cinema.
“Because I have a service background, it’s always something I’m naturally interested in,” he told us on set. “I don’t know many directors or writers that have that kind of experience to draw on and that mindset of a service person. So it’s always something I wanted to do. I’m a director who has more...

As part of an initiative called iFeatures, where three movies were made on modest-sized budgets in Bristol, England, 8 Minutes Idle is the final of the trio of films (Flying Blind and In the Dark Half being the other too) to finally make its way to cinemas. Though director Mark Simon Hewis’ debut production had hit a snag when the film’s initial distributor went bust – fortunately cash raised by members of the British public and celebrities such as Stephen Merchant and Dom Joly, have ensured this film will get a theatrical release after all – and given the creativity and jocular charm to this low-budget piece, that can only be a good thing.

It might be March, but it's still feeling a little chilly - which is why we're very glad that BBC One's got a creepy 1930s-set psychological thriller to warm us up with on Sunday night!
The Lady Vanishes is all about a socialite trying to track down a missing woman on a train, but we needed a bit more information than that. So we got on the phone with Tom Hughes - who you might know from Cemetery Junction, Silk or Dancing On The Edge, to name just a few - to find out more about his character, possible romance in the film, why he felt claustrophobic during the shoot and why we might get "sweaty palms" while watching...
The Lady Vanishes is obviously a classic film, directed by the legendary Alfred Hitchcock. Did you have any hesitation about being part of a remake?
"No, no I didn't really, no.
