Gusty winds are anticipated across western Montana and north central Idaho on Friday afternoon and evening. Expect choppy conditions on area lakes and localized tree damage/power outages. Elevated fire weather conditions will also be a concern, particularly across southwest Montana.
Long range forecast models are showing high confidence (80 to 90 percent chance) that above normal temperatures will continue into mid October. There is also a 50 to 60 percent chance that below normal precipitation will continue as well. With high pressure to our south and the jet stream to our north in Canada, periods of breezy afternoon winds can be expected. The next chance for significant rainfall does not look possible until mid to late October.
