Schools are instructed to allow necessary restroom breaks and ensure free accessibility of sanitary pads to all girls during board exams

The Union Ministry of Education has issued an advisory, stating that female students should be allowed to take necessary restroom breaks during board exams for classes 10 and 12, and free sanitary napkins must be made available at all examination centers. Recognising the importance of menstrual hygiene and its impact on academic performance, the advisory applies to schools across states as well as the Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE).

“Free access to sanitary pads and necessary restroom breaks during board exams ensures lesser discomfort and menstrual needs met, which will allow the girls to focus on the exams alone. Educational programmes will be implemented to raise awareness about menstrual health and hygiene among students, teachers, and staff. This initiative aims to reduce stigma and foster a supportive school environment.” an official said.

‘Don’t fall for fake circulars’
The CBSE has issued an advisory on Monday, urging students and parents to be cautious of misleading information regarding the syllabus, resources, and sample question papers for the 2024-25 academic session. The Board has alerted students about the dangers of relying on online portals that spread unverified information.

“We have noticed that certain online portals and websites are sharing outdated links and unverified information related to sample question papers, curriculum, CBSE resources, and activities. We stress that information from unauthorized sources can be misleading and may cause unnecessary confusion among schools, students, parents, and other stakeholders,” the circular added.
