How to get that glass skin glow: 7 easy steps

The rise in K-pop (Korean popular) love has picked up pace and it’s surely not slowing down anytime soon. It got us using bee venom, snail mucin, sheet masks and also introduced us to glass skin. The concept of flawless shiny skin that almost can reflect light, being as transparent as glass is what glass skin is.

Korean culture has indeed got us cutting bangs, calling bae Oppa instead and has definitely amped up our taste in music.

But achieving glass skin, like the things mentioned above, can’t happen overnight. It calls for consistent skincare practices, intake of the right food and a persistent skin regime.

Attaining that perfect clear glass skin is the ultimate goal! And, lucky for you we have a few perfect ways to achieve it. There are a plethora of products available in the market in formats such as creams, serums, and gels.

Skincare is an essential part of our lives; if it isn’t already, then make it happen! In search of glass skin, we try out different products and trends that come up almost daily these days, as well as follow the many skincare tips that come our way through the various media we are exposed to.

What makes glass skin different from honey or dew skin is that it’s intensively moisturised.

The process doesn’t involve using astringents and is based on hydrating ingredients that maintain the pH balance of your skin. That also means that each of us has to use products suitable to our skin type to manage the right pH and hydration level to achieve this impeccably smooth glass skin. Korean beauty culture has its own set of secret ingredients for getting this done - No, it’s not plastic surgery.

Here are 7 easy steps to get glass skin at home.

1. Double Cleansing
Creating a blank canvas of skin is the goal here. Our skin gets tired with the accumulation of dirt, oil, makeup residues and other pollutants by the end of the day. Using cleansing oil, micellar water and other products to remove makeup residue and greasy substances makes the skin feel light. This should be followed by a gentle foam wash.
Double cleansing reverts your skin to its original form, clearing everything that’s not part of it. It forms the natural layer to absorb oncoming products.
Tip: Make sure to pick a sulphate-free cleanser. Sulphate tends to remove all beneficial oil from the skin, dehydrating it, which is absolutely not what we want for a glass skin.

2. Exfoliate
Our skin produces dead cells every 30 days. Accumulation of these can keep the skin from breathing as it clogs pores resulting in dull skin and the formation of blackheads and whiteheads. Exfoliate your face using a scrub or other physical exfoliators. This is an important step in the glass skin routine. Make sure not to overdo it in case you have sensitive skin.
Tip: Sheet masks are another trick adopted from Korean beauty culture to soothe skin and repair damage by locking in moisture. It’s excellent for exfoliating dead cells.

3. Tone
There is a general belief that toners make the skin dry. Contrary to that, Korean beauty culture asks us to use toners (layers of it) to minimise pores and balance the pH level. Use hydrating toners that have pro-vitamin B5 content which helps in reducing moisture loss and making skin soft and supple. Check for toners with ingredients like green tea, galactomyces, ginseng and floral water to set the Korean skin goal right! Tip: You can also use essence after toner for targeted areas facing pigmentation issues as they hydrate and
re-balance our skin.

4. Serum
Serums have highly concentrated multitasking ingredients that have the powers of anti-ageing properties such as collagen that helps in firmness, reducing wrinkles or fine lines and nourishing the skin from within by giving that ‘lit from within’ glow. It even minimises pores and evens out skin tone.
Tip: Take a few drops of serum and gently apply throughout the face and neck (never forget the neck area). Use a hydrating serum with hyaluronic acid to boost moisture content.

5. Moisturise
The key step to achieving glass skin is moisturising. It is no new information that moisturising makes the skin feel soft and fresh. It gives that glassy shine you are looking for. Use a
lightweight moisturiser that packs maximum moisture and also houses nourishing botanical extracts and antioxidants. Tip: To make the most of this step, massage the face and neck well in an upward direction while moisturising.

6. Eye and Lip Cream
Eyes are doors to the soul, but we don’t want doormats of dark circles. Glass skin is far away from our reach if we have patches under our eyes. Bid adieu to cracked lips with constant lip balm usage. Apply serum or eye cream to the eye area. These sensitive areas require extra care. Regular sleep and healthy food habits matter a lot in making your eyes look young, glowing and happy.

7. Sunscreen
All these efforts are in vain if a proper sunscreen isn’t used. UV rays have proven to have the ability to form fine lines on the skin and could even cause skin cancer. Make sure to apply sunscreen evenly on your face 20 minutes before you go out and reapply every two hours.
