Q. How do you leverage the cloud to stimulate water efficiency in agriculture? A. Make it easy for farmers to calibrate their water use. Kilimo feeds data from weather stations & satellites into the cloud, which allows for machine-learning algorithms to suggest water allocations in minute detail. All you need is a computer or smart phone. This can save as much as 30% of a typical farm’s water use. Q. What does this have to do with water stewardship? A. Kilimo incentivizes farmers beyond face-value water and cost savings by bringing large corporate buyers of volumetric water benefits into the mix. Companies that want to purchase a water benefit need to prove that they are replenishing a unit of water within the same localized basin. New Portfolio Company: Emerald has led a €6.2M investment in Vytal | The reuse system to fuel the reusable packaging revolution! At the UEFA EURO 2024 fan zones, Vytal is supplying reusable dishes for over 70,000 football fans in Berlin, Cologne and Stuttgart. This marks the company's significant entry into the major events business. They previously equipped the Berlin International Film Festival (Berlinale) and the online OMR marketing festival with Vytal dishes, and soon the fan zone of the German House at the Summer Olympics Paris 2024 will be as well. New investment for Emerald client Nabtesco Technology Ventures: FOSSA Systems has raised a €6.3M Series A round to grow its IoT satellite constellation focused on remote asset management for industrial use cases. 🛰 The funding was co-led by Emerald CVC-as-a-Service client Nabtesco Technology Ventures and Indico Capital Partners, with the participation of Newmind Venture and Sabadell Venture Capital. 🛰 This capital raise will help FOSSA grow its IoT satellite constellation focused on remote asset management for industrial use cases and will support the creation of its 80-satellite direct-to-device communications network for customers to securely track and monitor their remote assets. 🛰 Fossa has extensive space heritage, with 17 nanosatellites launched into orbit since 2021, proving its ability to provide IoT communication.
