„Katharine has been a fantastic addition to our multimedia topics team. Not only has she transformed our workflow with Django, she has been an important contributor to our projects. She is more than just a computer geek, she is a journalist who helps us figure-out what is the best way to tell stories and she is always thinking beyond the project that we are working on to how can this data be useful in the future and with that in mind how do we need to structure what we are doing now. This is no easy task in a deadline-driven newsroom environment, but Katharine always seems to do it with ease.“

Between major privacy regulations like the GDPR and CCPA and expensive and notorious data breaches, there has never been so much pressure to ensure data privacy. Unfortunately, integrating privacy into data systems is still complicated. This essential guide will give you a fundamental understanding of modern privacy building blocks, like differential privacy, federated learning, and encrypted computation. Based on hard-won lessons, this book provides solid advice and best practices for integrating breakthrough privacy-enhancing technologies into production systems.
Practical Data Privacy answers important questions such as:
What do privacy regulations like GDPR and CCPA mean for my data workflows and data science use cases?
What does "anonymized data" really mean? How do I actually anonymize data?
How does federated learning and analysis work?
Homomorphic encryption sounds great, but is it ready for use?
How do I compare and choose the best privacy-preserving technologies and methods? Are there open-source libraries that can help?
How do I ensure that my data science projects are secure by default and private by design?
How do I work with governance and infosec teams to implement internal policies appropriately? -

Generations
–
This project, which helps people understand their generation and context to others, was intended to be fun and informative. I think we accomplished that successfully with audio, photos, videos, text, interactivity and some fun animations.

Katrina: 5 Years Later
–
We used photos, video, text, graphics, animation, data and other media to tell the story of how the Gulf Coast was coping five years after the disaster caused by Hurricane Katrina. This project brought together different talents and skills to create a true multimedia project. Designed with the iPad in mind, it shows what "of the platform" development can and should look like. I was proud to lead this project and remain proud of what we accomplished.
