Missing government records to Mar-a-lago: Donald Trump’s legal troubles

Earlier this week, the FBI raided former American President Donald Trump’s Florida estate, in search of evidence that the businessman destroyed White House records unlawfully.

​Legal wrangle

That’s not all Trump is under the scanner for, amongst other things, the former President is also being looked into for his role in the January Capitol attack. Here’s a look at all that he’s accused of.

​Missing records

The US’ National Archives and Records Administration says it recovered 15 boxes of White House documents from Trump’s house, a crime that could see him fine, imprisoned or disqualified from holding office in the future.

​Election tampering

Back in 2020, then President Trump was recorded telling Georgia’s secretary of state - Republican Brad Raffensperger - to “find the votes” needed to overturn Biden’s victory in the Presidential race.

​Capitol attack

A Congressional panel is investigating the former President’s attempts to overturn the 2020 Presidential election results. The January 6 riot is the panel’s focus in trying to prove Trump’s involvement in the storming of the Capitol building.

​New York real estate

Trump - as well as his daughter, Ivanka Trump and son-in-law, Jared Kushner - are the subject of a civil investigation by the New York Attorney General on suspicions that the Trump Org inflated real estate values.

​Defamation

E. Jean Carroll is suing Trump for defamation after he accused her of making up assault allegations for publicity.

​Wire fraud

There are also accusations that Trump raised $250 million under false pretences in order to further his claims that he won the 2020 election.

New York is also investigating the former President for misrepresenting property values in order to get favourable bank loans and lower bills.
