CObRaSO: Compliant Omni-direction bendable Hybrid Rigid and Soft OmniCrawler Module

The work was in the field of Hyper-redundant robots where specialized modules are used to improve the dexterity of a robot by increasing their degrees of freedom. CObRaSO is essentially a module which arose from the need for compliance in internal pipe-climbing robots. Previous designs of pipe climbing robots didn't comply to bends and turn within pipes.
3D printing was used for fabrication and SolidWorks for designing the parts.
Several new design innovations were incorporated.…The work was in the field of Hyper-redundant robots where specialized modules are used to improve the dexterity of a robot by increasing their degrees of freedom. Several new design innovations were incorporated. One was the Telescopic differential screw mechanism which was the main actuating mechanism for the bending action. Another was the 2 degree of freedom chain design which was built so that the driving chain is able to comply to bending pathways.
