Ever wondered how text summarisation models select summary-worthy segments? Most of the current models don’t explain the content selections made while writing summaries. At the Joint European Conference on Machine Learning and Knowledge Discovery in Databases (ECML PKDD) 2023, our researchers proposed a novel topic-aware and reference-free approach that utilises informativeness, relevance, and redundancy metrices to select summary worthy content. Watch our researchers Savita Bhat and Vivek Srivastava talk about their research in this video. Adolescents Living with HIV (ALHIV) face several problems every day, and their support system is often limited or non-existent. At #ServDes23, our researchers presented a #ServiceDesign intervention framework that uses interactive digital storytelling and game like scenarios to create an empathetic experience for ALHIV. This digital support system for ALHIV is deployable at a large scale, making this a crucial contribution to the community. Can your phone detect body temperature in real time? Our researchers have #patented a method that can do this by detecting region of interest (ROI) in thermal face images using a heuristic approach. This method is easily implementable on low power devices, is computationally light, and can detect temperature from a distance of 2 meters even if the face is obstructed. Traditional hierarchical clustering of time-series data is slow and computationally expensive. Our researchers, Soma Bandyopadhyay, Anish Datta and Arpan Pal, have #patented a hierarchical time-series clustering method that can recommend best clustering and corresponding distance measures. This method captures the patterns and important characteristics of data using an Auto Encoded Compact Sequences (AECS) and also identifies the different groups of patterns in the data, even when annotations are not available. Businesses face uncertainties due to climate change, geopolitical instability, cyber incidents, and so on. This highlights the need for a process that can quickly detect emerging problems and propose solutions. At ServDes 2023, our researchers Bhaskarjyoti Das, Dr. Ravi Mahamuni, and Sylvan Lobo presented a rapid service design approach that can mitigate gradually unfolding service experience disruptions in organizations. This approach can accelerate the service design process, enable quick response to such disruptions, and creatively and iteratively ensure service continuity.
