At Agoda, we faced significant issues with unwanted duplicate bookings due to system incidents and rebooking attempts from users. To mitigate this, we introduced a booking deduplication feature. As we grew rapidly, a new challenge emerged when we needed to transfer traffic from one data center to another during incidents. The legacy booking deduplication system could not detect duplicates as it was designed to function locally. Last month, a team of 25 Agoda volunteers went to Koh Kerd, a local tourism community nestled along the Chao Phraya River in Ayutthaya, Thailand, to complete the project our colleagues started back in April. There, we dedicated the day to revamping the community’s social media presence and building a new flood-resistant community pier. Together with community members, we worked side by side, assembling, drilling, hammering, sanding, and varnishing wood planks to build the pier on top of the foundation laid back in April.
