Saayoni Ghosh secures a landslide victory in Jadavpur; Defeats Anirban Ganguly and Srijan Bhattacharya

Saayoni Ghosh has added another feather to her cap. The actress-politician secured a landslide victory in the Lok Sabha election with over four lakh votes. Saayoni was contesting from the Jadavpur Lok Sabha Constituency for this year’s general elections. She defeated BJP’s candidate Anirban Ganguly and CPI(M’)s candidate Srijan Bhattacharya by over 2.5 lakh votes.
Saayoni Ghosh started her career as an actor with a telefilm ‘Icche Dana’. In 2010, Saayoni made her big screen debut with the film ‘Notobor Notout’. She then shared the screen with some veteran actors in Raj Chakraborty's ‘Shotru’, and later played the character of a journalist in Raj Chakraborty's ‘Proloy Asche’. Saayoni has worked in films ‘Kanamachi’, ‘Antaraal’, ‘Ekla Cholo’, ‘Amar Sahor’, ‘Bitnoon’, ‘Mayer Biye’, ‘Rajkahini’ and has earned appreciation for her craft. She came into the limelight in January 2021 after an FIR was lodged against her by Tathagata Roy (Governor of Tripura and Meghalaya) for hurting Hindu sentiments. She joined the All India Trinamool Congress in February 2021. In March 2021, she was announced to be All India Trinamool Congress’s candidate for the Asansol South constituency in the 2021 West Bengal Legislative Assembly election. But, she was defeated by BJP's candidate Agnimitra Paul.
She was appointed the President of the Youth Wing of Trinamool Congress in June 2021. On March 8 this year, Saayoni’s name was announced as the candidate to contest from the Jadavpur constituency. For over a month, Saayoni has conducted several meetings, rallies, and campaigns to reach the mass of her constituency.
Since being appointed as the president of the youth wing of AITC, Saayoni has been proactive in making her footing in the political arena and cut down on her work as an actress. She was last seen in Anik Dutta’s ‘Aparajito’ and Sayantan Ghosal’s ‘LSD: Laal Suitcase Ta Dekhechen?’
