Mohan Charan Majhi scripted history after being the first ever Chief Minister of Odisha from the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP). Majhi was sworn in as the 15th Chief Minister of the State which was a stronghold of the Biju Janata Dal (BJD) a regional party.
Majhi hails from a tribal community and is a four time MLA from Keonjhar. Let's learn about the new Chief Minister of the State.
Majhi is a law graduate and holds a Bachelor's degree in Arts. He has obtained BA from Chandra Sekhar College Champua, situated 300 km from the state capital Bhubaneswar. Established in 1977, the college is affiliated to Maharaja Sriram Chandra Bhanja Deo University. Majhi obtained his graduate degree in 1993.
Majhi is also a law graduate from the famous Dhenkanal Law College. The college is permanently affiliated to Utkal University and was established in 1981.

Hailing from a humble family, Majhi did not leave association with education. He worked as a teacher at the Jhumpura Saraswati Shishu Mandir. Saraswati Shishu Mandir is a network of schools in India, focused on imparting education rooted in Indian culture and values. Established by the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS), these schools emphasize holistic development, moral education, and the promotion of Sanskrit, fostering academic and ethical growth in students.

As per reports, Majhi belongs to Santhal tribe. The Santhal tribe is one of the largest tribal communities in India, primarily residing in the states of Jharkhand, West Bengal, Bihar, Odisha, and Assam. Known for their rich cultural heritage, the Santhals have a distinct language called Santhali, and a vibrant tradition of music, dance, and art. Their festivals, such as Sohrai and Baha, celebrate nature and agricultural cycles. Historically, the Santhals are recognized for their resistance against British colonial rule during the Santhal Rebellion of 1855-56. They mainly engage in agriculture and maintain a deep connection to their ancestral lands and traditional practices.


The 53 year old CM of Odisha, started his political career as Sarpanch of Raikala in 1992. He was first elected to the Odisha Legislative Assembly in 2000.
