Delhi water crisis: Atishi in emergency ICU after health deteriorates due to hunger strike

NEW DELHI: Delhi minister Atishi was taken to hospital and admitted to emergency ICU early on Tuesday after her health deteriorated due to hunger strike. She has been on hunger strike over Haryana's refusal to release Delhi's "rightful share of water."
This came after the doctors advised her getting hospitalised after significant decline in her health on the fourth day of fast.
Talking to ANI, Delhi health minister Saurabh Bharadwaj said, "Her blood sugar levels had been dropping from the night. When we submitted her blood sample, her sugar levels came out to be 46. When we checked her sugar levels from a portable machine, her sugar levels came out to be 36... Doctors are checking her vitals and only after that will they give suggestions."
"My blood pressure and sugar levels are dropping, and my weight has gone down. Ketone level is very high which can have harmful effects in the long run. No matter how much my body suffers, I will continue the fast till Haryana releases water," she said on Monday.
On Tuesday morning, AAP wished for the Atishi's recovery and revealed that, "she's been admitted in the emergency ICU at LNJP."
Later, Medical director of LNJP Hospital Suresh Kumar gave an update on her health and said that the minister was stable while they're waiting on few test results. "When Atishi was brought to the hospital, her blood sugar was low. She was drowsy and her sodium level was also low. She has been admitted to the Emergency ICU. She is currently on IV fluids. Her vital parameters are stable right now. Some blood tests have been done, the reports are awaited," the director told ANI.
Atishi argued that Delhi has been experiencing a shortfall of 100 million gallons of water per day (MGD) consistently over the past three weeks.
Delhi Lieutenant Governor VK Saxena met with AAP leaders on Sunday. After the meeting, Saxena stated that Haryana chief minister Nayab Singh Saini had assured him of investigating the possibility of supplying extra water to the city.
