HYDERABAD: A govt teacher attending school in Kothagudem district’s Illendulapadu village was on Thursday locked up by angry parents and students in a classroom after he was caught in a drunken state on campus. Kalva Sudhakar, who is the only teacher in the school with 11 students, was suspended on Friday by the authorities.
The latest incident comes close on the heels of another teacher Pathipati Veeraiah attending duties in an inebriated condition in mandal parishad primary school in Timmapet gram panchayat in Kothagudem on June 21. Locals had confined Veeraiah to a cattle shed till the authorities arrived.

At Illendulapadu, Sudhakar reportedly addressed students using vulgar language. Upset with his behaviour, the students bolted the door of the classroom from outside and called their parents. The parents in turn locked up the school gate and did not allow the teacher to leave the campus. Sudhakar’s drinking buddies had however left the campus by then.
The mandal education officer and police also arrived at the school after being informed by the parents about Sudhakar’s misconduct. It was only after four hours that Sudhakar was allowed to come out of the school
On June 22, a govt primary school teacher Phani Bhaskar in Kothagudem town was suspended for being absent and when he was summoned for an enquiry by officials, he came drunk.

Such incidents have prompted calls from parents and student organisations for stricter measures, and ensuring a conducive learning environment for students.
