Jasprit Bumrah says remaining clear and calm reasons for dominant T20 World Cup performance
NEW DELHI: Jasprit Bumrah's exceptional performance throughout the T20 World Cup played a crucial role in India's victorious campaign, earning him the well-deserved Player of the Tournament award.
Although the statistics reveal that Bumrah claimed 15 wickets from eight matches, placing him third on the list of highest wicket-takers, his true impact on the team's success cannot be quantified solely by numbers.

His presence and contributions were invaluable to India's triumph in the ICC event, which they secured after a 17-year wait by defeating South Africa by a narrow margin of seven runs in the final held in Barbados.
In the championship match, Bumrah once again showcased his importance to the team by dismissing Reeza Hendricks early in the innings and later removing Marco Jansen, effectively restricting South Africa's run-scoring efforts.
“I tried to keep calm. We play the sport for this, I am really over the moon, my son is here, family is here, we've been working really hard towards this, no better feeling than that. We play sport for the big stages,” PTI quoted Bumrah as saying during the presentation ceremony.

Bumrah expressed that the importance of the event motivated him to elevate his performance.

“On the big day, you have to give more, throughout the tournament I felt very clear and calm. At my peak mindset I think of one ball at a time. The emotions can take over, but now the job is done.”

Bumrah, after successfully completing the task at hand, confessed that he struggled to maintain his composure as his fellow players shed tears of happiness.

"Usually I'm the one who tries to keep my emotions in check and get the job done but today I don't have many words, I don't usually cry after a game but the emotions are taking over," he conceded.

Bumrah mentioned that he utilised the reverse swing effectively during his second spell, particularly when he took the wicket of Marco Jansen.

“That over I thought a length ball (against Jansen) was the option, it was reverse-swinging and I was glad to execute,” he added.
