SGPGI terms MP’s allegation on bias against OBCs as ‘false, misleading’
LUCKNOW: The Sanjay Gandhi Postgraduate Institute of Medical Sciences (SGPGIMS) has dismissed the allegations of discrimination against a reserved category candidate in the selection for the post of assistant professor in the neurology department by MP Ambedkar Nagar, Lalji Verma as ‘false and misleading’.
In a social media post on X, Verma had alleged discrimination against OBC candidates in major institutions, citing Dr Sarvesh Kumar Chaudhary’s non-selection as an example.
The spokesperson of SGPGI gave details of the interview held for selection on May 13 and urged all stakeholders to “cooperate in stopping the spread of this misinformation”.
'No unreserved candidate selected for this post'

In his statement, the spokesperson said that Dr Sarvesh Kumar Chaudhary appeared before the selection committee in an interview held on May 13, 2024 for the vacant post of assistant professor reserved for OBC cadre in the department of neurology, SGPGIMS.

The selection committee included two external experts of neurology, the head of the department concerned and one representative each from the department of medical education and the chairman of SGPGI, Lucknow, besides liaison officers of OBC and SC cadres. However, the selection committee deemed Dr Sarvesh Kumar Chaudhary ineligible for the position, the spokesperson pointed out.

The spokesperson explained that since the vacant post was reserved and Dr Sarvesh Kumar Chaudhary was the only applicant, the seat continues to remain vacant. No unreserved candidate has been selected for this post, the spokesperson asserted, adding that the position will be re-advertised as an OBC backlog seat in the near future.
