BWSSB finds 3k illegal drainage connections
Bengaluru: Bangalore Water Supply and Sewerage Board (BWSSB) officials have found 2,929 illegal drainage connections after they inspected over 18,000 buildings across the city till June 24.
According to officials, thousands of individuals come forward to legalise their connections by paying the required fee and the board expects a few lakhs of rupees as fee.
BWSSB has appealed to the public to regularise their drainage connections from April 24. Officials started inspecting the buildings from May 8, after BWSSB chairman Ram Prasath Manohar directed them to do so.
The direction was given to prevent sewage flow into the stormwater drainages and also to avoid the pressure on BWSSB’s drainages across the city.
Officials will issue notices to those with illegal sewage connections. BWSSB will slap Rs 5,000 as fine if they fail to respond to the notices.
