Hyderabad: The retest of 1,563 students who were given grace marks by the National Testing Agency (NTA) has led to some improvement in the NEET rankings of students from Telangana.
While the difference is marginally in case of the first 100 rankers, many students down the chain have seen their ranks go up 50 places or more. This revision of ranks, students say, will help them at the national level as they now stand a better chance of securing a seat under the all-India quota.
“I feel my chances of securing a seat in states like Kerala, Tamil Nadu, or Assam have improved now,” said Korra Gopal, whose rank went up 65 places on the all-India quota. In the ST category, his rank improved by four places putting him at 5,611, nationally.
“There is definitely an improvement in the ranks of our students. Our topper’s overall rank has gone up 40 places from his previous rank. The same is the case with other students. All these students might benefit in the all-India quota,” said G Surendra, principal of a Telangana Tribal Welfare Study Centre.
Seconding him, P Prameela, academic director, Narayana Group said that even the ranks of their students have seen a revision. “The student who secured 96th rank is now at 91st position and the one who secured 101 rank is now ranked 96. The revision has been significant for those secured ranks above 1000,” she added.
But despite all this, many students from Telangana maintained that it would be better if NEET 2024 was cancelled, and a retest was conducted for all students.
