State govt to invite applications for post of vet varsity V-C
Ludhiana: The state government is in no mood to grant extension to interim vice-chancellor of Guru Angad Dev Veterinary and Animal Sciences University (Gadvasu), Dr Inderjeet Singh. The government is considering inviting applications for the post of V-C in the vet varsity. However, the meeting of the university’s board of management is yet to take place.
Confirming the development, animal husbandry, dairy development and fisheries minister Gurmeet Singh Khudian said on Monday that they would start the process of appointment of the new vice-chancellor in the days to come.
Dr Inderjeet Singh, who is the incumbent interim V-C of the university, is currently on extension for three months or till the appointment of a regular V-C. He completed his four-year term on June 10 and is known for his research and expertise in breeding and management.
A meeting of the university’s board of management was scheduled to be held in Chandigarh on Monday but was postponed. The government is yet to fix a date of the next meeting. An official said that the board would take the final call on initiating the process of appointing a new V-C.
Speaking to TOI, cabinet minister Gurmeet Singh Khudian said, “We will call for new applications for the post of Gadvasu vice-chancellor. The current V-C can also submit his application. Among the applications, the most qualified will be recommended for the position.”
He added that the meeting of the board of management was postponed as majority of the members could not reach.
“The new meeting will be called in the days to come,” he said. A member of the board said that the meeting was scheduled to be held in the afternoon but they received a message in the morning that the meeting had been postponed.
Incumbent interim vice-chancellor Dr Inderjeet Singh completed his regular tenure on June 10. On June 13, the state government appointed him as interim V-C for three months or till the appointment of a regular V-C, whichever is earlier.
