Next up, the Tata Punch retained its crown as India’s best-selling SUV. However, the model dropped to second position in the overall list. The carmaker sold 18,949 units of the model, registering a massive 70 percent growth as compared to 11,124 units sold in the year-ago period.

The Maruti Suzuki Dzire completed the rostrum with 16,061 units sold during the month. The company witnessed a substantial 42 percent year-on-year growth for the model as compared to 11,315 units sold in the corresponding month last year.

For Hyundai, the popular Creta continues to be the top-selling model with a total of 14,662 units sold in May 2024. In terms of growth, the company registered a marginal one percent YoY growth as compared to the 14,449 units sold in the corresponding month last year.

The popular tallboy from Maruti Suzuki, WagonR, saw a slight decline in sales as compared to last year but managed to claim the fifth spot on the list. The carmaker sold 14,492 units of the model in May 2024, down by 11 percent, as compared to 16,258 units sold in May 2023.

Out of the seven Maruti Suzuki models in the top ten list, the next model is the Brezza SUV. The manufacturer sold 14,186 units of the model during the past month, registering a 6 percent growth as compared to 13,398 units sold in the year-ago period of May 2023.

The Maruti Suzuki Ertiga witnessed a strong growth, selling 13,893 units, up by 32 percent, as compared to the 10,528 units sold in the corresponding month last year. The MUV continues to be a top-selling model for the brand.

Mahindra's Scorpio has consistently ranked in the top 10 for several months. In May 2024, Mahindra sold 13,717 units, achieving a 47 percent year-on-year growth as against the 9,318 units sold in May 2023.
