CHANDIGARH: Panjab University Campus Student Council (PUCSC) elections are likely to be held on September 6, with the police agreeing to the date.

UT SSP Kanwardeep Kaur said police are ready to conduct a free and fair student council elections in the university and its affiliated colleges on September 6, but the PU authorities would announce the final date. An official announcement is likely to be made on Saturday.

Police have already beefed up security in PU and 12 city colleges. The SSP said around 70 cops have been deployed in and around PU campus and all vehicles are being checked extensively. Five cops each have also been deployed in 12 city colleges to control hooliganism and untoward incidents.

Recently, supporters of different student parties thrashed a secretary of Punjab’s AAP MLA in his presence. Cops had rescued the MLA from the crowd. However, no police complaint was lodged by the MLA or his secretary. Students were angry over the presence of political leaders on the campus and demanded a ban on their entry.

In 2022, voting for PUCSC was held on October 18. Aayush Khatkar of CYSS, the student wing of AAP, was elected president by a margin of 660 votes.
