UT to test patients with symptoms of flu, respiratory distress
With the JN.1 Covid variant hovering around, health experts have thrown a word of caution, but they feel there is no need to panic as it is a variant of interest and not concern. “This is a variant of interest, implying that we do not have enough data to label it as mild, moderate or severe. This is being watched. But looking at the trend elsewhere, there seems to be no deadly pattern till now,” said a public health expert from PGIMER.
“This is the season for respiratory illnesses and pneumonia. The elderly and those with low immunity must take extra care,” she added.
‘Wear mask’
Mohali DC Aashika Jain has advised the residents to strictly adhere to Covid-appropriate behaviour as risk of contagion grows. She appealed to the residents to wear masks in crowded places and closed settings. Doctors, paramedics and other healthcare workers besides patients and their attendants have also been told to wear masks.
Tamil Nadu asks immune deficient patients to wear masks
The directorate of public health has asked district health officials to ensure immune-compromised patients, elderly with comorbid conditions, and pregnant women wear masks in public spaces to prevent transmission of infectious diseases, including Covid-19. A new subvariant of Omicron is causing an increased surge in Covid-19 cases in Indonesia, Thailand, and neighbouring Kerala. The directorate has asked doctors to test patients with symptoms of flu also for Covid-19. In flood-affected regions, people have been advised to drink boiled water and eat freshly cooked, clean food. The state has been giving measles-rubella vaccinations for children under 15 in flood-affected areas.
Health experts advise patients with comorbidities to remain isolated as Covid-19 JN.1 variant sees spike
Rajasthan University of Health Science's Vice Chancellor Dr. Sudhir Bhandari reassures citizens about the JN.1 variant and emphasizes the importance of the strong vaccination program. He advises senior citizens and patients with comorbidities to remain isolated. Union Health Minister Mansukh Mandaviya holds a high-level review meeting on respiratory illnesses and COVID-19 preparedness. Delhi Health Minister Saurabh Bharadwaj reviews the Covid preparedness in the national capital. Several deaths are reported in different states.
