CHENNAI: A 60-year-old man set ablaze his 48-year-old live-in partner as the latter stopped meeting him, at Otteri on Thursday. Police arrested the man on charges of murder.
While the woman succumbed to burns on Friday, the man, an autorickshaw driver, is under treatment for 41% burn injuries. According to police, after a separation, Selvi met Subramani, 60, and they lived together for 20 years. Later, Selvi tried to break off the relationship but Subramani did not accept it.
On Thursday, when Selvi went to visit her daughter in Otteri, Subramani went there and started an argument with her. He then torched her. Selvi’s son-in-law Dilli Babu, who tried to rescue them, also suffered burn injuries.
All three were rushed to hospital. While Selvi died on Friday, Dilli Babu and Subramani are under treatment.
