Film stars Shah Rukh Khan, Mammootty and Asif Ali and former adult actor Mia Khalifa have "joined" IUML from Kalipankulam ward in Nemom constituency of Thiruvananthapuram, a scrutiny of the party membership database has reportedly revealed. Meanwhile, the state party leadership has blamed cyberattack and ordered a probe.
The membership drive had concluded on December 31.
The state leadership of the party had directed that enrolments to the party should be done by arriving at people's doorsteps. Those who took the party membership had to upload their Aadhaar number, voter identity card number and phone number to an online platform. Each ward had a separate password. Only the information technology coordinator in Kozhikode could open and examine the database after the process had concluded.
The state leadership came to know that these names were on the list during the scrutiny in Kozhikode. C P Bava Haji, state vice-president of IUML and returning officer for Thiruvananthapuram district, said the mistake had come to his notice and directions have been given for conducting an enquiry.
Though party workers were asked to conduct the enrolment, there were complaints that some workers had entrusted the work to computer centres in certain areas. The party has decided to seriously look into the complaints on enrolments since there are complaints from other areas also.
After the membership drive ended, the data shows that the party has 59,551 members in the state capital. In Kerala, the party has 24.33 lakh members, an increase of 2.33 lakh from 2016.
