LUCKNOW: As the state continued to reel under the heat wave, Prayagraj was the hottest place in the country for the fourth consecutive day on Tuesday.

In fact, the state met department predicted that the heat wave conditions will prevail over the state for at least next five days with maximum temperature touching 45 degrees Celsius at many places. Dry hot Westerly winds (loo) will also lash most parts of UP.

Mercury soared to 47.1 degrees Celsius in Prayagraj, which according to the IMD bulletin, was the highest maximum temperature in the country.

"Dry and hot westerly winds from desert regions of Rajasthan are lashing the state unabated for the past several days and are responsible for the heat wave," said Mohammad Danish, senior scientist at the state met department. "Maximum temperature would rise further by 2-3 degree Celsius during the next two days and no large change thereafter. There will be no significant change in the minimum temperatures," he added.

Kanpur IAF recorded maximum temperature of 45.7 degrees Celsius, Sultanpur (45.4), Varanasi (45.3), Rae Bareli (45.2), Varanasi (45), Aligarh and Bahraich (44.8 each), Barabanki (44.5), Hamirpur (44.2) and Kanpur, Basti and Bulandshahr (44 each)
