The Kherwadi police on Monday arrested 52 individuals and seized 34 two-wheelers during a special drive targeting those involved in racing and rash driving on the Western Express Highway (WEH) the previous night. The offenders were booked under the Indian Penal Code sections for rash and negligent driving and the Motor Vehicle Act for violating traffic rules.
Kherwadi senior police inspector Pandurang Mullick said the police have been conducting regular night drives on the WEH, particularly in the area from Mahim Causeway to Bandra Reclamation.

The bikers often check for police nakabandi before engaging in races and stunts, with their favorite spot being Reclamation in Bandra East, where they park their bikes in lines to perform. The police officer noted that the bikers do not race for money but rather to create videos showcasing their skills and gaining popularity on social media. Some of them even remove their number plates to maintain anonymity, while others have modified their bikes.
In a similar anti-racing drive conducted by the Bandra police in April, 20 bikes were seized, and 20 individuals were arrested at the Bandra Reclamation early on a Sunday. The arrested individuals ranged in age from 19 to 33 years, with one notable arrest being that of a 24-year-old doctor, Abdul Mohiuddin Sayyed, from Chembur.
