‘BJP nominees too have lost faith in EVMs’

MUMBAI: MPCC president Nana Patole said on Friday that even the BJP candidates do not trust electronic voting machines (EVMs). His remarks came in the wake of reports that defeated BJP candidate from the Ahmednagar LS seat Sujay Vsiskhe Patil, son of revenue minister Radhakrishna Vikhe Patil, has applied to the Ahmednagar collector and district election officer for verification of EVMs in 40 polling stations in keeping with EC rules.

“There is no trust in EVMs among the people, there is a nationwide demand to replace EVMs by ballot papers. However, the BJP is still insisting on EVMs. Now even BJP candidates have lost faith in the use of EVMs. Eight candidates from across the country have raised objections on the use of EVMs, and three of them are from the BJP. Vikhe Patil belongs to the BJP,” Patole said.

He said the Centre and EC should take into account the seriousness of the issue. Sujay Vikhe Patil has deposited a fee of Rs 18.88 lakh for checking and verification of EVMs.
