PATNA: A high-level delegation of the state BJP on Sunday called on governor Rajendra Vishwanath Arlekar, reiterating their demand for an enquiry into the police lathi-charge on the party's Vidhan Sabha march last month, besides seeking his intervention into the "growing atmosphere of fear" in Bihar. The delegation, including leader of opposition in the state assembly, Vijay Kumar Sinha, former ministers Nand Kishore Yadav, Tar Kishore Prasad and Janak Ram, as well as lawmakers Janak Singh and Nawal Kishore Yadav, among others, also submitted an eight-point memorandum to him.

"We repeated our demand for an enquiry into the police lathi-charge on our party's Vidhan Sabha march here on July 13," state BJP chief Samrat Choudhary told media persons outside Raj Bhavan.
The police had resorted to using water canon, tear gas shelling and lathi charge on the BJP march, during which party functionary Vijay Kumar Singh had died, while many, including Maharajganj MP Janardan Singh Sigriwal, were injured.
The delegation also submitted a report with signatures of over 25 lakh people, collected during a July 24-August 9 campaign by the party's youth wing, Bharatiya Janata Yuva Morcha, on these issues, Chaudhary said, added they also sought the governor's intervention into the activities of sand mining, liquor sale and land mafia. "An atmosphere of fear and anarchy prevail in Bihar due to deteriorating law and order."
