Family paying bills from donations by villagers: Santosh Sah
PATNA: Thefamily of Bihar artiste Santosh Sah, whose legs were amputated last month at Patna Medical College and Hospital after an accident, has been doing the rounds of government offices for over a fortnight to get the identity details corrected so that he can avail benefits of schemes such a s the Pradhan Mantri Jan Arogya Yo jana, which provides a health cover of Rs 5 lakh p er family for hospitalisation.
Santosh barely earns enough to provide for his wife and their two little children, reports Manoj Chaurasia.
“Nobody in the administration seems to be taking this seriously. My family is paying my bills from donations by villagers. But how long will they help me?” said Santosh, who hails from Sitamarhi district.
Dr Bharat Singh, who is in charge of Patna medical college’s orthopaedic department, told TOI on Thursday, “Our first priority then was to start his treatment. After coming to know the facts, we drafted an application and requested that his name and gender be changed in the records. The authorities concerned are refusing to do that despite our requests. ”
Santosh’s brother Ramashankar Sah said i t was a travesty that his sibling should suffer for no fault of his. “We are very disturbed, and not sure what to do next,”he said.
