In recent years, India has witnessed several reports of paper leaks. Over the past seven years, more than 70 examination papers have been leaked across different states, impacting the careers of many youth. Following such incidents, many examinations were cancelled.

In 2023, a private college in Maharashtra was implicated in the leak of a Higher Secondary Certificate (HSC) Mathematics paper. Evidence suggested the college also leaked Chemistry and Physics papers. The question papers were circulated via WhatsApp shortly before each examination, giving an unfair advantage to many students.

In another 2023 incident, a Hindi question paper was leaked during the Secondary School Certificate (SSC) examination in a village in Telangana's Warangal district. The leaked paper was circulated on social media, prompting education officials and the district collector to take action. An investigation revealed the paper was distributed after the commencement of the examination.

In March 2023, the Secondary Education Board of Assam (SEBA) cancelled the High School Leaving Certificate (HSLC) exams for English and General Science due to leaked question papers. Education Minister Ranoj Pegu ordered a CID investigation, resulting in the cancellation of the exams.

The UP Police Recruitment Exam 2024, held on February 17 and 18, 2023, saw the participation of over 48 lakh aspirants, including around 16 lakh women. The exam was conducted across 2,385 centres in four shifts to fill 60,244 positions in the UP police force.

The University Grants Commission National Eligibility Test (UGC-NET) 2024 was cancelled on June 19, 2024, due to suspicions of a compromised exam. The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) is probing the matter.

The increasing incidents of paper leaks in India have raised serious concerns about the integrity of the examination process. These breaches have not only led to the cancellation of exams but also significantly impacted the academic and professional futures of many students.
