NEW DELHI: BJP on Sunday maintained that it would win “enough” seats to form the government. The party’s Delhi unit chief, Manoj Tiwari, rubbished the exit poll results and claimed BJP would win at least 48 seats.

“All exit polls are going to fail miserably. We have analysed voting patterns in each assembly seat. We are sure to win at least 48 seats and form the next government in Delhi,” Tiwari said.
Several news channels aired exit poll results immediately after voting time ended at 6pm on Saturday and predicted a landslide victory for AAP.
BJP functionaries, however, rubbished the exit poll results and claimed the election results were going to “shock” everyone. They added that exit polls never represented the “correct picture” of voting. “The samples of exit polls were collected by survey agencies till 3pm when voters had just started coming out. In several constituencies, voting continued at least two hours beyond the stipulated time of 6pm and exit poll results started coming out immediately after voting ended. How can it be representative?” a senior party functionary asked.
Top BJP functionaries, including national president JP Nadda, home minister Amit Shah, party general secretary BL Santosh, ministers in charge of seven parliamentary constituencies and seven Lok Sabha members, held a closed-door meeting to discuss voting patterns and possible poll outcome. The emerging situation was analysed along with feedback from various quarters.
Sources said Shah, who had held several public meetings and roadshows and micro-managed the campaign, asserted that BJP would win more than 45 seats. “Even in the worst-case scenario, BJP won’t win less than 28-30 seats,” a senior party functionary said.
