19 Andhra Pradesh MPs top average self-income chart
HYDERABAD: Nineteen MPs from Andhra Pradesh have the highest average annual self-income of Rs 1.05 crore as opposed to the national average of Rs 30.29 lakh, says a report. According to an analysis by the Association for Democratic Reforms (ADR) and the National Election Watch (NEW), Telangana stands at 11th position with 14 MPs having average annual self-income of Rs 30.6 lakh.
The ADR and NEW report covers income and professions of 479 out of 521 sitting MPs. The figures have been derived from their self-declared affidavits submitted in 2014 prior to Lok Sabha elections.
The single MP from Chandigarh had an annual self-income of Rs 1.72 crore. This was followed by the average for AP and then Odisha’s 15 MPs with an average annual self-income of Rs 68.8 lakh. Two MPs from Goa had the lowest average annual self-income of Rs 5.2 lakh.
Interestingly, two MPs from AP made it to the list of top 20 MPs with the highest annual self-income.
In fact, topping the list was Jayadev Galla, the TDP candidate from Guntur, with an annual self-income of Rs 16.3 crore (total income of Rs 16.85 crore). His declared profession was business and agriculture.
The other AP MP was S P Y Reddy of YSR Congress from Nandyal. He was 14th on the list with self-income of Rs 1.86 crore (total income of Rs 2.33 crore). He has declared that he is an industrialist.
The other prominent players included in the list are Jayant Sinha (BJP) from Hazaribagh with self-income of Rs 3.67 crore (total Rs 3.92crore), Varun Gandhi (BJP) from Sultanpur with Rs 2.78 crore (total ?2.84 crore) and Kirron Kher (BJP) from Chandigarh with self-income of Rs 1.72 crore (total Rs 3.89 crore).
Topping the list of MPs with the lowest annual selfincome was AP’s Srinivas Kesineni of TDP from Vijayawada. His income was declared in the negative with minus Rs 2.06 crore self-income (minus Rs 2.03 crore total income). His declared profession was ‘business’.
The sole Telangana MP making it to this list at the 6th position was Godam Nagesh of TRS from Adilabad, with a self-income of Rs 1.52 lakh (total income Rs 1.52 lakh. He is said to be in agriculture. Among MPs who did not declare their incomes were AP’s Thota Venkata Narasimham of TDP from Kakinada.
Telangana’s Nandi Yellaiah of Congress also did not declare his income. He represents the Nagarkurnool constituency.
The report also sheds light on the gender gap, with only 58 (12%) members of Parliament being women. On an average, a male MP’s annual self-income was Rs 30.54 lakh, whereas for a woman it was Rs 28.46 lakh.
