Dubai-based band hits the right note with Kolkata fans

It was for the first time that Dubai-based band, Rooh, which also worked on two Bollywood projects, performed in the City of Joy. The event took place at a restopub on Park Street on Friday evening.

Music lovers poured in from all corners of the city to have a good time witnessing the band perform. Its vocalist, Anupam Nair, is half-Bengali and half-Malayali. The show kickstarted with a liquid drum performance by the band followed by Anupam asking revellers to join him on stage to try their hand at playing the unique percussion.

Rooh also paid a tribute to KK and sang Pal. That apart, they sang a wide range of popular English tracks like Ed Sheeran's Shape Of You, Hindi and Punjabi pop tracks like AP Dhillon's Brown Munde, Guru Randhawa's Cinderella, Humma Humma, Chhogada Tara and wrapped up the set with their own number, Ure Dil Befikre.

Anupam also sang every song requested by the audience. By the time the band was crooning the final song from their set, it was 2 am, but the restopub was packed to capacity and everyone was still seen dancing.

Talking to us, Anupam said, "I adore James from Bangladesh. I love the culture of Kolkata and I am aware of the audiences' wide musical choices. I will also try to follow Bengali rock bands."
