Did You Know Sharmila Tagore gifted a Rs 1 lakh Mercedes-Benz to Mansoor Ali Khan Pataudi before their marriage?

Veteran actress Sharmila Tagore, known for her iconic roles in Indian cinema, recently opened up about her marriage with former Indian cricketer Mansoor Ali Khan Pataudi, affectionately called Tiger.
During her conversation with Kapil Sabil, Sharmila revealed that he and Pataudi first met at a party in 1965. She revealed that it was not love at first sight.
Their love story, she shared, developed gradually over time. Reflecting on their relationship, Sharmila humorously mentioned a unique clause in their marriage agreement: “It was part of my nikahnama to say, ‘You will not discuss cricket ever.’” This light-hearted revelation adds a personal touch to their storied romance.
One of the most cinematic moments of their relationship took place in Paris on Bastille Day, a day filled with celebrations and noise. Sharmila recounted, “We were in Paris and it was Bastille Day when the entire city is on the roads to celebrate their independence. There, he went down on his knees, just like it happens in the movies, and asked me, 'Will you marry me?' I was like, ‘Kya bol rahe ho? Sunaai nahi de raha.’ There was so much noise. Then he said it loudly and I said, ‘Yes yes I will.’”
In the interview, Sharmila also reminisced about a special gift she gave to Pataudi before their marriage a Mercedes-Benz car worth Rs 1 lakh. At the time, this was an extraordinary gesture, not only because of the car's value but also due to the process involved in acquiring it. She explained, “One had to get approval before purchasing because it wasn't possible to buy a car directly at that time.”
Sharmila and Pataudi's enduring love story was blessed with three children: Saif Ali Khan, Saba Ali Khan, and Soha Ali Khan. Their relationship, marked by moments of affection and grand gestures, continues to inspire many.
