A video of actor Milind Soman - making one of the crew members of his upcoming series do pushups on the set - was making the rounds, recently. Milind, who looked like a strict PT teacher in the video, admits that this is something that occurs everywhere he goes. "It's the same wherever I go - film sets, airports, restaurants or highways," Milind states.
One of the internet users commented on the video revealing how the Paurashpur actor made her do 20 pushups for a selfie. "If people recognise me and want a picture together, that's what they are required to do. 10 pushups for girls and 20 pushups for boys. Age no bar. Sometimes the people are in their 60's or 70's. They are also welcome to do more if they want. Chatting is free," Milind quips.
Once Milind made a woman do 35 pushups only to find out later she was pregnant. "She was 5 months pregnant. I was shocked, but she said her doctor was aware of her exercise schedule, she probably trained harder than me! Usually there are three exemptions to the pushup rule - pregnancy, official uniform, current injury or surgery in the last 90 days."
The idea of making people do physical task for a selfie started "about 8-9 years ago". "The whole selfie craze was picking up," he recalls, adding, "People started taking pics with anybody they recognised. I don't really like being photographed, unless I am being paid for. But I didn't want to say no to a pic (for a fan). So I thought that if I asked them to do something meaningful for themselves before the pic, it would make more sense to me. I thought most people would refuse. But to my pleasant surprise almost 95% of people try, even if they have never exercised before. Recently I was invited to speak at a university and I asked them to get 1000 students and faculty to do 10 pushups each before I attended. They did it. It was amazing."
The 57-year-old is a fitness enthusiast. However, his ways could be perceived stringent by a few. For the video in contention, a few sections of internet users called the proposal 'thoughtless', citing that the man was asked to do a pushup on a wet road. Milind, undeterred by their opinion, is rather glad that the cynics are few in numbers.
"I understand that when people have opinions while not knowing anything about a situation, they are bound to be mistaken," he ends.
