Nivedita and I lived apart for a year before getting divorced: Chandan Shetty
The days following Kannada rapper Chandan Shetty and Nivedita Gowda’s separation have been rather traumatic, shares Chandan. From the two living separately for the past year to sharing how circumstances went beyond what could be fixed, the musician engages in a tell-all with Bangalore Times.
‘I’m surprised word of our separation got out so soon’I understand we live in a digital age, and celebrity news is out almost in an instant. But we did not expect ours to be almost minutes after we signed the papers. Nivedita and I had gone to the family court and by the time we got out, I was being bombarded with calls and texts. I was shocked, to say the least. It took me some time to comprehend what was happening. All of the speculation and frenzy surrounding the divorce made us decided to remain as dignified as possible, unlike the muck that was being thrown at us.
‘There are so many baseless attacks being made on us’A lot of people appreciated the way our separation was handled with dignity, but it’s not easy. Sitting in a room that’s packed with people from the media to talk about your relationship is both nerve-wracking and hurtful. I had to deal with a lot of emotions, but maintained composure while clearing all the speculations that were made. It was distressing, but both of us kept it cordial. When we got married, it was joyous, so it’s only fair our separation also happens respectfully.
‘My focus hereon will be only on my professional life’My life in the last five years has been a whirlwind. Nivedita was a good friend from the Bigg Boss house, and it soon turned into a relationship. The proposal, our wedding and the past four years went by in a flash. Now, the two of us are heading our own ways. Hereon, my focus will only be on my career. I have three films and some great music lined up for release. Also, despite what’s happened in life, I still believe in love because it was beautiful to me, while I had it.
