Non-bailable arrest warrant issued against actor Vishal Krishna over non-payment of TDS

A court in Tamil Nadu has issued a non-bailable arrest warrant against actor Vishal Krishna of 'Ayogya' fame. The warrant has been issued by Egmore Court after the actor's production reportedly failed to remit the TDS deducted from the employees’ salaries over a period of five years. His production, Vishal Film Factory based in Vadapalani, was raided by the Income Tax Department in 2007.
As per reports, the actor was supposed to appear before the Additional Chief Metropolitan Magistrate Court-II in Chennai. However, he has not appeared for the hearing at all. The actor's counsel had argued that Vishal never received the summons.
However, public prosecutor for Income Tax department M Sheela argued that when the counsel for accused stated that summons was not received then how did the counsel filed a memo of appearance and a petition to condone the absence of the accused.
The public prosecutor also stated that this was the second summon sent to Vishal and still he has not appeared. Vishal was supposed to appear for a hearing on July 24. The court has adjourned the case to August 28.
