Sacred signpost – five finger prayer

Many times, when we join our hands and bow our head to pray, we are praying for our own self, asking something from God: ‘O God please make my day go smoothly today; O God, please let me pass the interview today; O God please take my illness away.’ All that is fine. It is after all your own private conversation with the divine, but these very hands that you join and pray with, teach us to pray for others, think beyond ourselves, and seek the welfare of all, because in others welfare lies our own welfare too.
