Former WWE wrestler Donovan Dijak was spotted at the AEW x NJPW Forbidden Door event on June 30, 2024, which was held at the UBS Arena. His contract with the Stamford-based wrestling promotion expired on June 28, and it’s believed that the promotion did not want to renew his contract further.
Although his appearance at the AEW event does not confirm that he’s joining the company, it’s always a possibility of that happening.
He’s also appeared at other indie wrestling events like Blitzkreig Pro Wrestling, indicating that he’s exploring all available options.
Following a successful run in WWE NXT, Dijak was soon drafted to Monday Night RAW. However, he came a little short of meeting the expectations set, and hence decided to part ways with the Stamford-based promotion.

Dijak’s presence at Forbidden Door sparks rumors of him joining AEW

After his release, Dijak took to X to share a cryptic video where he teased his appearance at Forbidden Door. In the video, he was seen walking out the door into an open area, where he mentioned taking a 4 hour drive, but he didn’t reveal the location.
However, fans were quick to speculate that he would be present at Forbidden Door because of two main factors:
  • The distance of Lunenburg, Massachusetts, where Dijak is based out of, is around 4 hours away from UBS Arena.
  • Him walking out of a door.
Dijak’s appearance at AEW x NJPW Forbidden Door sent fans into a frenzy, with many expecting him to debut on the show on that very night. That, however, wasn’t the case. But with Dijak currently a free agent, he’s free to appear at any show he wants to.

He also thanked Tony Khan for having him at the show via a post on X.

If an AEW debut does happen for Donovan Dijak, then he’ll most likely be going up against Keith Lee, with whom he had a feud during his WWE NXT days.
While his employment at the Jacksonville-based promotion is still up in the air, he will be appearing at two indie events; Rev Pro on July 28, where he will face Michael Oku. His other appearance is scheduled for September 29, where he will make his debut at Roseland 9.
Dijak has also expressed interest in working with TNA, but there is no confirmation of him joining that promotion yet. Following his departure from WWE, fans from all around the world stepped in to support him on his journey moving forward in the world of wrestling.
With limitless possibilities and openings available to him, it will be interesting to see which wrestling promotion Dijak finally decides to join in the near future.
