Meta, the company behind WhatsApp, bans accounts for engaging in activities that violate its Terms of Service. If a user is caught or is complained of promoting terrorism, sharing nudity or exploitative content, spamming, scamming, or jeopardising user safety, WhatsApp can ban their accounts.
In its latest monthly report, which is published in accordance with India’s IT law, WhatsApp details that it banned 66 lakh accounts in India in May.These bans can be triggered by user reports or the company's automated systems detecting policy violations.

When you open WhatsApp on a banned account, you'll see a message stating, “This account is not allowed to use WhatsApp.” If your account is banned, you can request a review. WhatsApp will assess your account activity and potentially reinstate your access.

To prevent getting banned, thoroughly review the "Acceptable Use of Our Services" section in WhatsApp's Terms of Service. This clarifies appropriate use and activities that violate them. WhatsApp has also listed some “best practices for using WhatsApp.”

WhatsApp also clarified that if an account is banned and has been unbanned, the users need to re-register their phone numbers on WhatsApp to ensure they have access.
