Hotel body wants cheaper loans, GST cut in Union Budget
Jan 22, 2023The Hotel and Restaurant Association of Odisha (HRAO) submitted a memorandum to the Union Finance Minister, Nirmala Sitharaman, with a set of demands ahead of the Union Budget next month. The demands include declaring the hospitality industry as a priority sector, cutting in GST rates, cheaper loans with a longer moratorium period, and relaxations in minimum alternate tax by allowing a waiver on it for two years from April 2023 to March 2025. The HRAO has also sought infrastructure status to investment of Rs 10 crore onwards. "Currently hotels built with an investment of Rs 200 crore or more have been accorded infrastructure status," the HRAO chairman, J.K. Mohanty, said. "The government should bring down this threshold to Rs 10 crore per hotel to give a fillip to the budget hotels this will enable hotels to avail term loans at lower rates of interest and have a longer repayment period." The HRAO has also urged the minister to increase the loan payback time to 10 years and to extend the loan term for the hotel industry for a longer period. "The government should consider increasing the emergency credit line guarantee scheme loan term for the hospitality sector to 15 years as permissible by banks for extending term loan for new projects," Mohanty
All roads lead to Puri, city deserted
Jul 7, 2016Roads in the capital city wore a deserted look with most vehicles plying on the road leading to Puri on Wednesday.There was very less traffic on the arterial roads.Even markets, malls and parks recorded thin attendance.
