India is currently experiencing a severe heatwave, with several cities recording extremely high temperatures – we are talking about temperatures well above 40 degrees Celsius. As per reports, it is estimated that these cities will continue to face extreme temperatures for some more time. Here are some of the cities that are facing the brunt of the heatwave:

The national capital, Delhi, is witnessing unprecedented temperatures, reaching as high as 47.4 degrees Celsius. The intense heat poses significant challenges for its over 30 million residents. Delhi, a metropolis, experiences the urban heat island effect caused by the dense population and infrastructure. If you are in Delhi during this time, do stay indoors during peak heat hours.

In Rajasthan, the city of Barmer is sweltering at 46.5 degrees Celsius. Located in the Thar Desert, Barmer is no stranger to high temperatures, but it may be safe to say that the current heatwave is pushing the limits, for people as well as plants and animals. The dry and arid desert environment amplifies the heat, making conditions extremely harsh.

Jaisalmer is known for its desert forts and sand dunes, and right now, the city is recording temperatures of 45.8 degrees Celsius. The extreme heat is affecting not only the daily life of its residents but also the tourism sector, which is vital to the local economy. Tourists are being advised to limit outdoor activities and stay in shaded or air-conditioned areas.

Jodhpur, known as the Blue City for its vividly painted houses, is currently experiencing a temperature of 45.5 degrees Celsius. The combination of high heat and low humidity makes it difficult for people to cope, be it residents or tourists. In case you are planning to pay the city a visit, you may want to wait the heat out.

Located not too far away from Delhi, Chandigarh, known for its modern architecture and greenery, is also in the grip of a severe heatwave, with temperatures hitting 44.5 degrees Celsius. The city’s green spaces are usually a refuge during summer, but with temperature soaring day by day, these green spaces offer little relief. Authorities are advising residents to stay hydrated and avoid unnecessary outdoor activities.

Amritsar, home to the iconic Golden Temple, is experiencing temperatures around 44.3 degrees Celsius. The severe heat is not only discomforting but also poses health risks, particularly for the elderly and children. Pilgrims visiting the Golden Temple are being cautioned to take measures against heat exhaustion and dehydration.
