LUCKNOW: Uttar Pradesh chief minister Akhilesh Yadav has said that the health and nutrition of women and children was one of the top priorities of the Samajwadi government.
He claimed that the work done by his government in this sector is un parallel . Till the time the health indicators of UP are improved the national health indicators cannot improve.
It is for this reason that the Hausla Nutrition Scheme has been started.
The chief minister was today speaking at the backward caste, SC and ST dominated Motipur Kala village in Shravasti district after launching the Hausla Nutrition Scheme.
He informed how the Samajwadi government in the state had set an example by executing the scheme through its own resources and added that Rs. 700 crore has been arranged for this scheme which will considerably improve the health of pregnant women and children.
It may be pointed out here that the Hausla Nutrition Scheme executed under the State Nutrition Mission, 10 lakh pregnant women and 14 lakh extremely malnourished children between 6 months to 6 years would be provided cooked meal and one seasonal fruit six days a week at Aanganwadi centres. Also, the pregnant mothers would be provided curd, thrice a week along with food.
The malnourished children would be given half a kg desi ghee @ the rate of 20 gm per child per day. The pregnant women would also be given iron tablets and children biscuit packets/puffed rice for consumption at home. Pregnant women and malnourished children will be given health and nutrition related advice at the Aanganwadi centres.
