Former US president Donald Trump made a first appearance in federal court in Miami on Tuesday facing 37 counts related to the mishandling and retention of classified documents at his Mar-a-Lago estate. Trump could be sentenced to years in prison if found guilty.

“I had every right to have these documents,” Trump said at Bedminster. “The decision to segregate personal materials from presidential records is made by the president, during the president’s term. And in the president’s sole discretion.”
