☁️ Microsoft has reached a settlement with CISPE over alleged anti-competitive cloud licensing practices, bringing to a conclusion a long-running dispute with regulators and European cloud industry stakeholders. 🔎 The pair have agreed to a settlement that will see Microsoft agree to licensing changes that opens up its Azure Stack for European hosters, as well as to co-establish an oversight body. Microsoft has nine months to make the changes, or the complaint will be revived. ❌ While both Microsoft and CISPE may be keen to see the back of this dispute, industry rivals including AWS and Google Cloud aren't happy. 💬 A senior exec at Google Cloud described the deal as a "pay off" while an AWS spokesperson told ITPro the settlement "does nothing" for customers that still want to use the cloud of their choice in Europe. 📝 Nicole Kobie has a full run down of the news and everything that's happened so far in this dispute for ITPro. #Cloud | #CloudComputing | #Microsoft | #CISPE

🧠 Cyber attacks can be incredibly harmful for businesses – but they can also have a major impact on the wellbeing of staff. After a breach, workers can be left feeling scared or ashamed, and may even seek to leave their role. 🎙 On today's episode of the ITPro Podcast, Jane McCallion and Rory Bathgate speak to Parisa Bazl, head of user experience at Commvault, to discuss how leaders can foster a more supportive environment for their staff in the wake of attacks – and why mental health is important for cyber security. 💬 “There's a lot of guilt associated, either with somebody who admits the vulnerability, or even those who were set up to defend the organization. 📉 IT service providers are concerned that ongoing economic uncertainty will hit their spending over the next year, according to new research from Kaseya. 📝 In its new 2024 Future of IT Survey report, the company found that four-in-ten service providers expect economic pressures to hit spending on software, with 36% saying that hardware spending would be affected. 🔎 Kaseya said economic concerns may be behind a trend towards shorter, more adaptable contract periods with vendors, something that four-in-ten respondents said they were implementing. 💬 “This shift suggests a desire for greater control and agility in responding to emerging challenges and opportunities." #IT | #Economy | #Business

❄️ Snowflake has announced new security policies to allow admins to enforce mandatory multi-factor authentication for customers. 📝 In an advisory to customers this week, Snowflake CISO Brad Jones said MFA will now be enabled by default for new accounts. The changes will also include new prompts on the Snowsight platform to encourage users to enable MFA. 🔓 The move comes after Snowflake customers - including Ticketmaster and Santander - were impacted by a major breach earlier this year. ⚠️ While the changes have been welcomed as a positive step, Javvad Malik, lead security awareness advocate at KnowBe4, said that policies such as these can only go so far. Businesses have to do more to encourage security best practice. 💬 “Simply implementing a control like MFA is sometimes not enough. Social engineering can still bypass the best of controls. Therefore, a strong security culture needs to be created whereby people understand the importance of MFA and how to ensure they are using it correctly." #Snowflake | #MFA | #InfoSec | #Cybersecurity
