EY's 63rd Renewable Energy Country Attractiveness Index (RECAI) has named the United States as the leading market for renewable energy investment, driven by significant solar installations and federal support for grid upgrades. China and Germany follow in second and third places respectively, with China advancing due to legislative support for renewables, and Germany maintaining strong participation in solar PV auctions. Other notable countries include France, Australia, and the UK, with India needing substantial investment to meet future targets. Despite global clean energy investments reaching $1.8 trillion in 2023, the report indicates that this is insufficient to meet the required targets for 2030, highlighting the need for improved infrastructure and further investment, especially in battery energy storage systems. https://lnkd.in/guYpS6BJ #RenewableEnergy #EnergyTransition #OdinGlobal

Google has made a capital investment in New Green Power 永鑫能源 (NGP), a Taiwan-based solar developer in a deal that grants the US company the rights to procure up to 300 MW of solar assets. NGP, founded in 2009, specializes in large-scale photovoltaic (PV) projects, engineering, construction, and operation, and plans to expand its solar project pipeline in Taiwan to 1 GW. NGP is part of a climate infrastructure unit managed by BlackRock. This investment aligns with Google’s goal to achieve net-zero emissions and run on 24-7 carbon-free energy. Google has been increasing its solar power procurements globally, including recent agreements in Japan, Australia, and Europe, and has a history of procuring solar power in Taiwan. https://lnkd.in/eQENtmS5 #EnergyTransition #CapitalInvestment #OdinGlobal

The Bureau of Ocean Energy Management (BOEM) will auction two offshore tracts in the Central Atlantic on August 14, aiming to generate up to 6.3GW of renewable energy, sufficient to power 2.2 million homes. The areas, located off Delaware, Maryland, and Virginia, exclude a Maryland site due to potential military and NASA conflicts, with the site potentially available by 2026. This auction is part of the U.S. Department of the Interior's (DOI) broader plan, under President Biden, to expand offshore wind energy, having already approved eight projects and planning up to 12 more lease sales by 2028. https://lnkd.in/ekNJHnQe #OffshoreWind #EnergyTransition #OdinGlobal

India installed about 14.7 GW of solar capacity in fiscal 2024. This included 11.7 GW of utility-scale solar installations and 3 GW of rooftop solar. The top three states for new additions were Gujarat (4.8 GW), Rajasthan (3.4 GW), and Madhya Pradesh (0.8 GW), according to JMK Research & Analytics. As of March 31, 2024, about 68.2 GW of utility-scale solar capacity had been commissioned in India, while another 65.6 GW is under pipeline (where auctions are completed). JMK said India will commission about 16.9 GW of new utility-scale solar projects and 4 GW of rooftop or onsite solar projects in the year ending March 31, 2025. https://lnkd.in/e4kSMeTu #SolarEnergy #India #OdinGlobal

The New York State Department of Public Service Commission (PSC) has approved the Energy Storage Roadmap 2.0, aiming to achieve the state's target of 6GW of energy storage by 2030. This initiative, led by Governor Kathy Hochul, includes solicitations for large-scale battery storage and onshore renewable energy resources. The roadmap is part of New York's broader climate goals, which include sourcing 70% of its electricity from renewable energy by 2030 and achieving 100% emissions-free electricity by 2040. Key elements of the roadmap involve NYSERDA-led solicitations for 4.7GW of bulk storage, and incentives for 1.5GW of retail and 200MW of residential storage. A significant feature is the 'Index Storage Credit' mechanism, designed to stabilize revenue for storage developers, addressing investment barriers. The roadmap also prioritizes disadvantaged communities, allocating 35% of funding to reduce reliance on polluting peaker plants in these areas. Additionally, the roadmap includes provisions for enhanced safety measures following a series of fires at energy storage projects in 2023. These include draft recommendations for state fire codes and guidance to ensure safer deployment. https://lnkd.in/gJs5e-f3 https://lnkd.in/dJFdECEx #EnergyStorage #NewYork #OdinGlobal

German transmission system operator Amprion GmbH has announced delays for two major offshore wind grid connections, BalWin1 and BalWin2, in the German North Sea. Originally scheduled for 2029 and 2030, these connections will now be operational in 2030 and 2031, respectively. Amprion GmbH's revised timeline still beats an earlier draft schedule, which projected completion between 2031 and 2033. Managing Director Carsten Lehmköster cited tight market conditions and limited capacities among contractual partners as reasons for the delay. Despite these challenges, Amprion GmbH is committed to contributing to Germany's accelerated expansion targets for offshore wind energy. https://lnkd.in/epXsN5kJ #OffshoreWind #GridConnection #OdinGlobal

Vattenfall has partnered with CemVision to develop and supply near-zero emission cement for turbine bases. The new cement has the potential to reduce carbon dioxide emissions by 95% compared to traditional cement and can be used in power distribution and prefabricated concrete elements as well as hardware foundations. The cement is made from recycled residual materials from sectors including mining and steel industries manufacturing in a process where CemVision’s kilns are fueled by fossil-free energy. Compared to traditional cement production, which emits large amounts of carbon dioxide due to the use of virgin limestone and fossil fuels, CemVision can reduce the carbon footprint by up to 95%. The initiative aligns with Vattenfall's commitment to sustainable construction and climate action, emphasizing the importance of early transition to greener technologies. This collaboration reflects a significant step towards reducing the environmental impact of cement production and fostering innovation in the construction industry. https://lnkd.in/d6jwdzZW #OnshoreWind #Sustainability #OdinGlobal

Global PV installations are projected to reach between 600 GW and 660 GW in 2024, according to Bernreuter Research. This forecast is driven by low module prices and the ambitious shipment targets of the top six solar module suppliers JinkoSolar Co., LONGi Solar, Trinasolar, JA Solar, Tongwei Solar, and Canadian Solar Inc. who aim for an average annual growth rate of 40%. Based on 2023's global installations of 444 GW, this would result in 622 GW of new capacity in 2024. Bernreuter Research's report, "Polysilicon Market Outlook 2027," suggests that demand will surge in the latter half of the year as module prices stabilize. Global solar installations of 630 GW to 660 GW would exceed the report’s high scenario of 620 GW. The report also noted that China, with a market share of more than 50%, will continue driving global PV installations forward. https://lnkd.in/gw9QhHAy #EnergyTransition #SolarEnergy #OdinGlobal
